Not Breathing Well...

Should I call my midwife or go to my family practitioner? Last night I woke up after sleeping for a couple of hours and I couldn't breathe, my fast acting inhaler didn't help at all. I would only notice when I am awake...my chest feels sore this morning from obviously working really hard to breathe last night. Not feeling so hot today

I don't know for sure... Maybe call whomever you could see the most expediently? Hope you feel better soon momma...

Maybe elevate yourself some more at night? I had a hard time breathing yesterday when I reclined all the way in my chair so I actually had to sit up. Hopefully you can get it all straightened out and feel better!!

Family practitioner. Definitely. Get your heart checked out, as the fact that your inhaler didn't impact suggests it could be "palpitations", for want of any scientific background. And big, big as I can only imagine how scary this must be.

If it helps at all, I have dealt with this several times in this pregnancy....and I hadn't even used my inhaler in years beforehand. Seems it was irritated by allergens (we moved, so it has been dust central) and then the chest cold I currently have. It is scary, I know, but I found that the more I worried about it, the worse it got. (go figure-- of course the stress further constricts your breathing). Go see your GP. Likely they will do some breathing tests to help determine the extent of the problem. I did find that a warm shower and hot tea help me at least counteract allergens and slow down a little...
might be viral too...elderberry, perhaps?
Hang in there. It will get better!

Thanks everyone!
I went to the GP this morning and she thinks it's a cold coming on and I just need to have one of my inhalers dosage increased. Hopefully it'll help. I just feel like my throat is all swollen and there is added weight on my chest. I am halfway convinced that it's the apartment we are living in 'cause with both ds and dd I went off meds and had little to no problem at all. At the other apartment I could go months without meds and have minimal problems with it, but I had issues since we moved here. I am starting think that there is a mold problem here, that's one of my biggest triggers. Oh well I am going to talk to my midwife and see what she thinks... Again thank you all.

Glad to hear you figured out what was going on. I'm short of breath in the mornings but I think it's the baby. Two and half more months... I see you live in Madison, WI. I'm only 10-15 minutes from WI in Illinois.

My MW told me to try a WARM mist humidifier for this cold/cough/breathing mess...said it will come in handy with baby, too.
I am game for anything at this point. I will keep you posted and let you know if it helps!

(((HUGS))) I don't have asthma but I have PVC's BAD BAD BAD to the point that they effect my sleep and my activites and they had gotten better but they the past week have gone from not so bad getting used to it to I can't hardly read a book to my kids w/ out getting out of breath and it is scary and sucks bc my heart feels like it is racing constantly even though it isn't and my heart skips a beat about every other minute and the doc gave me meds to take but I am just not ok w/ taking any kind of meds while preggo but I tell ya I am almost tempted bc this effects me so bad. Anyways I hope the higher dosage works!!!

The upped dosage has definitely improved things, and the cold has come on full force though, eek. We should get our humidifier out, and my babies like to have that white noise as well when we are sleeping so it would help on several levels. Thanks!

I forgot to say, get a back massage as well. The contact and stimulation really help Isaac when he's having a hard time breathing.

Will try...I have a friend who is a massage therapist who might give a discount.
