Ok i have decided to make use of my time at home and save some money while im at it....i have decided to learn how to knit and tie dye to make my life a little more exciting and economically feasable...Im not very CRAFTY AT ALL!!!! I failed home ec...so believe me im a challenge....

What are some good beginers books i should read??

What should i buy first hand???(our money is extemely limited but my sister said she would actually help me out)

Ive been recently pondering on the idea of making my own diapers and saving myself some money also...But first i want to deal with the easy stuff and then on to the more complicated....Although right now everything is complicated

TIA

Check out a couple knitting books form the library- especially those in the children's section. You should be able to find one that really makes sense to you. Knitting really isn't hard once you figure it out. One suggestions about yarn though- leave the acrylics at the store and use all natural fibers. They are more expensive, but so much nicer to use.

Also, if you want to ease yourself into being crafty, imo tie-dyeing is easier to learn than knitting. You can probably find some basic books on that at the library, too. Don't be afraid to dive in! It's hard to mess it up if you have directions to follow.

As a new knitter myself, I would agree that knitting might not be the easiest place to start...it's not that hard, really, but it is slow going. If it were me, I might start with sewing some diapers--I think you'll get quicker gratification. Really, sewing basic diapers is pretty easy, plus there are lots of us on this board who can answer your questions.

Just a thought.

Happy crafting!!

I agree. Tie dye will be the easiest to start with. I think sewing dipes is easier than knitting, as long as you can work a machine.
I love knitting, but it does sometimes take a looong time to finish a project. If you know someone who knits, I recommend you learn from them! lol I recently learned from a book, and boy did it give me a headache at first!

Happy crafting!

ok tie dye, sewing and then knitting...cool....now another question im full of them ive read that you dont need a serger to make diapers but i have access to both a serger and a sewing machine....should i just use the serger instead...which is best to make hemp diapers with about 3 layers in the soaker and 3 in the doubler plus the body...I heard that hemp was hard and although i will not begin with hemp of course since its so expensive, i would eventually get there if and when i learn how to make my own diapers....
