Lengthening rise

Thread Starter
I'm full of questions these days! So here's another one...

I the rise on my diaper pattern is a little short. On the mediums its only about 14" and most other diapers I've seen are about 15-16" in the rise. How can I lengthen the rise-just increase the front and back {like add .5" to both the front and back} or do I need to add the length to the middle/crotch area?

TIA!

I would think you would want to lengthen the middle/crotch area. I may be wrong though.

If you lengthen in the crotch/midline, you will make the leg holes bigger and change the coverage in the back. One of the Yahoo! Groups diaper sewing groups has a tutorial on altering patterns, if I get time today I'll try to fnd it for you. But I've found it's easier to just draw a new pattern than alter the old one. Changing one thing requires changing a bunch of other things to keep the rest of the fit the same.

I added to the crotch when I altered patterns for my dd. Worked well because she had those tires on her thighs prewalking, so the legholes weren't too big. She's been in the same size for going on 1 year. The pattern I started w/ was Shar's newborn w/umbilical scoop from the WeeWeka site, and I liked it so much, I just kept tinkering with it as my dd grew.

simply draw a line in the widest part of your pattern. cut on the line then add in whatever increase you may need. Do in the front and back if you need this in both areas. Do not change the leg holes if they are adiquite.
