Weird cold sensitivity, shaking

I am 4 days post baby. Last night I woke up shaking uncontrollably feeling freezing cold. I was naked from the waist up as my breasts were horribly and painfully engorged, and at the time was just so tired is just got under the covers, made DH get right up on me because he is so warm, and just laid there till the shaking went away. I slowed, then just came in waves, then stopped. I felt ok today, then laid down in bed at noon to nap, took off a sweatshirt I had on and instantly got that all over sick/cold chills feeling. I got many blankets, got under them, pulled arms in shirt next to myself, and slept. THe trembly feeling went away again. I just woke up and had the same thing when I got out from under the covers. It isn't like a...brrrr....I'm cold, type of feeling. It's an utterly awful shaking chill to the bones.

What is that and should I feel concerned???

Are you fevered?

Could be shock from loss of hormones, fluids, etc.

I don't know. Good luck.

I would bet a fever from the milk coming in. when I'm feverish, even if it's a very low grade one I have that type of trembling. Hope it's gone by now. Let us know, ok? and take care!

I think I read somewhere that the shakes come from the dump of hormones. Wish I could be sure though. I would contact your provider though to see what they think????

Thanks for the replies guys. No noticable fever. I feel a little better this evening. If I have any other spurts this evening or tonight i think I'll call my HCP. I notice I am also hot flashing. Probably hormones but last night freaked me out.

I get something similar (pregnant or not) when I am go-go-go and my core temp rises too high during the day. When I finally sit down or go to bed for the night, sometimes I go into the cold shakes.

I noticed I was going into that one day and took a VERY long hot shower. That seemed to help. Not sure WHY.

I'd bet it has something to do with hormones. After DD I simply couldn't get cooled off when sleeping and had to wash the sheets daily because they'd be soaked in sweat!

After having a baby we do get an adrenaline rush which helps us to get through those first few sleepless days. Maybe you're coming down from that?

If it continues though I'd call your dr.

i had the same thing after DS#1 was born. it happened to me when and after my milk finally came in. i also had to MAKE myself slooooooowwwww down. i was barely doing anything, but i would get a clogged duct if i even tried to anything. so i would just suggest relax, and have people wait on you if possible

Had the same thing with DD as well. Freezing cold and shaking but sweating at the same time. No fever though. It was a combo of hormones and getting rid of excess fluid I think and went away after a few days.

This time around I've just gotten really cold at night but I'm OK during the day. Everyone else is just wearing pjs to bed and I've got on pjs, a housecoat and two blankets. Hoping this will pass soon because I feel like I'm going to smother someone with all the extra layers I require.

Got them again today. Called Dr just to make sure nothing to worry about. They said just take it easier than I have been and watch carefully for fever.
