The Power of Now by Eckhart Tolle

I just finished reading this book. I like the concept of the book. This idea is not that different from our ideology. I would like to find people actually living in the Now, and hear their experiences related to parenting. I also would like to know how you teach your children to live this way. My LO is still a toddler. How do you teach the idea of Now at this stage? Thanks!

I've read this book, but it didn't "really" get to me. One of my favorite websites always recommends it, though: www.trans4mind.com/healing I think there are some pointers about young kids in the questions there.

I have quite a few books in this category. I read this one because it was short.

Thank you for the suggestion. I will definitely check it out. I did not make a huge connection to the book either. I like and believe the premise, and I was not new to the ideas. I was just not that fond of the writing style. The repetition, format, and wording were distracting. Most books I just devour, but this book I had to force myself to read.

I read this book originally because I generally have a weirdness with the concept that we are born with an ego that wants to keep us unhappy. I believe that our egos are our human minds. The ego wants to survive, and that it's only goal. This to me should not always lead to unhappiness, but it might. When I was explaining this to someone she recommended this book. I read the book, and I still have questions. Tolle barely touched on the information I was seeking. I am not sure if I should continue to even give these questions my time because it might just be true loving self struggling with my ego .

Thanks again for the responses!

I think I agree with you. I've always had this feeling that we were, deep inside, determined to be happy, and that things are not trying to sabotage us or anything, it's just that sometimes it's confusing and it's hard to process all that information and realize that whatever is happening is the best possible thing without falling into empty optimism or positive affirmations or whatnot.

I definitely don't believe our ego is there to make us unhappy. Perhaps you'd enjoy reading "Loving What Is" by Byron Katie. It was there where my concepts finally clicked with reality, and now I don't really feel confused anymore. There's also a lovely thread here about it in the Personal Growth forum, by MayMay, but the book is a great first step to get acquainted with simply that, loving what is. And I've found that when you love whatever happens in each moment, you're living in the now, almost without realizing. And without striving.

I have looked in getting Loving What Is. I follow the thread on here too. I agree that loving each moment will have you living in the Now. I will probably pick up the book at the library this week.

Thanks for the suggestion.

I just found this thread while searching for "Tolle" -- I am reading A New Earth. I just wanted to add that I don't think we are born with these egos---I am watching my 2yo dd closely as I read this book---but instead we develop them along the way. I'm definitely still figuring this out....
