I did it Ladies. I gave birth to a beautiful baby boy at 9:03 a.m. last Friday Nov. 9th at a hospital. It was a successful VBAC that I still can't believe I pulled off. My water broke at 6:30 a.m. on Thursday and I sat around waiting for the contractions to start picking up which they never did. Finally around noon I figured we would make the drive up to Christiana which was an hour and a half from where we live. We went up and still no contractions, just gushing of amnio fluid. Around 5:00 p.m. the Dr and I decided that we both were comfortable with the idea of some pitocin and he started a drip to get stuff started and boy did it work. I went from a posterior, closed and thick cervix to fully dialated in less than 12 hours. I did recieve an epidural because at a certain point I was so exhausted I was afraid I could not continue if I did not get some rest. It was expertly placed and wore off well in time for the pushing stage. I pushed for about an hour and then we decided that because of my Son's malposition vacuum forceps would be nescesary as my Son was showing signs of distress. He was born at 9:03 in the morning. Unfortunatly I had developed an infection as a result of the fact that my water had been broken for over 24 hours at this point and I was running a high fever. Beren was admitted to the NICU for 2 days to watch him for signs of sepsis which thank God he did not have. I was unable to nurse him for the first 12 hours of his life but it didn't seem to matter as he is a champion nurser now (he has regained his birth weight today, his fourth day). Despite all the hardships it was worth every second for the time to spend with my sweet baby. I am very proud of my successful VBAC even though it ended up being full of interventions I felt like each one was something I understood and completely my choice. I am so proud to be a Mom of 2 now.
