I think my husband was abused

After spending some time with my FIL, I am almost certain my husband was abused as a child.
Examples when he arrived at our home 2-year-old ds was hammering on the fridge FIL turned to dh and said "If you had done that when you were little you would have been hammered Or telling us Stephen would have been "severely punished for pushing food on the floor.

My husband is the most gentle, caring soul you could ever have the good fortune to meet. If anything I think he is afraid to discipline due to his past, which causes a different set of problems.

Are there any good gentle discipline books geared towards people who were abused.

Thanks

giving the love that heals, by harville hendrix, speaks to this exactly. it helps the reader sort throught the things that happened to him, how it shaped him and his parenting style, and then gives tools to change based on this understanding. i like that because then i can go read a regular old gd book and actually be able to put into action the parenting it suggests, otherwise i can have all the info in brain, and still not be able to actually practice it when things get tough.
