Disgusting. I would have offered a $500 college savings bond for her not to do it and probably would have destroyed the tree.

holy crap batman

man i am so sorry you are going through this. the circ tree is just beyond belief too!

i will recomend to you what i am planning to do for myself...outline my biggest reasons for being anti circ on a business card size paper...keep in my wallet for easy retrieval when needed. i am still practicing my testimonial and evangelical skills hehe. sometimes i get all lock jawed when im so emotional...so a cheat sheet can keep me focused.

I agree.....I would have walked out. My nephews on my side of the family are all circ'd, but none of my sisters or sister-in-laws EVER had a circ tree at their baby showers. That is completely and utterly disgusting.

Ideas....

Demonstrate how much money they could make if they invested that 2-300$ over 18 years.

Anyone who says not circumcising is gross, tell them about the clamps. gomco- they actually safety pin the poor boy's foreskin. Plastibell- they let the foreskin rot off. Mogen- they have a problem with amputating the head of the penis or bits of it.

A circ tree?!

That's worse than those stupid websites that some women set up soliciting money for breast implants. It's just beyond tacky (at best).

It's amazing the lengths people will go through to get money for a circ. I remember discharging a baby to a family that was practically begging for diapers and formula upon discharge, claiming they couldn't afford it and needed something to get by until they could get a WIC appointment...but miraculously had $250 cash to pay to ensure their son's circ was done in the hospital. Even though medicaid would have paid in full for it to be done as outpatient (thats another gripe altogether)...they wanted it done NOW in the hospital.

But really...a circ tree?!?! wow, I would have walked out.

Awesome come-back idea. Now I know what I will do if, Goddess forbid, I ever find myself at that kind of shower.

Now if this would only work on my brother when the time comes... I think I will start saving up now.

This has inspired me. When and if I have another baby shower I am going to put up a "Post baby Tummy-tuck/Lipo for Mommy" tree. I wonder how many people will donate to that.

I didn't really understand how pointless/damaging circing was until after my daughter was born. Thankfully she was a girl, because if she had been a boy, he probably would have been circumcised. I seriously thought that they just snipped off a pointless flap of skin.

All that to say-- I asked a few people about circing before I knew she was a girl, and they all just said, "Oh, yeah,everyone does it, it's no big deal." I would so have appreciated someone who actually knew what they were talking about and tried to convince me otherwise (I would have been an easy convert ) So, to the intactivists (and to the OP, if you have any influence), always explain your position-- emotional appeals probably wouldn't have gotten to me, but the medical information definitely would have (and has).

Judging from the Etiquette Hell website, you don't even have to wait until you are pregnant again. You could send out letters (e-mails would be better, because it wouldn't cost you anything) to everyone you have ever met grubbing for money for your cosmetic surgery.

And it's almost Christmas/Chanukah/Kwanza/Solstice season, so you can tell them to make a deposit to your special Sugery Account set up at your local cosmetic surgeon's office!

Will they pay the bills if the mutilation has complications?

Since circ'ing isn't just a snip and many complications can happen (including death and permanent disfigurement), will they take up a collection if THAT happens? Geez...that is messed up! I'm so happy you stood up and spoke your mind!

Those people need to be 'educated'. It's just sexual mutilation with no real benefits (except for the hospital via money). Sick sick sick!

That is horrible. My question is though which is worse, asking for money to pay to mutilate their child or giving money for said perople to be albe to mutilate their child? They are both horrible and speak volumes about our society.

I'm with the video idea. Show her a video, force her to sit for two minutes and watch it, show her the "lost" list about what circ really removes, etc, etc.
