Ditto does not go with book!

I am so tired of my ds coming home with worksheets to fill out, that do not go with the book. Today my ds had a worksheet on the brain. It asked about what part of the brain controls: Artistic ability, taste, kicking a ball, etc. I was checking my ds's work and opened up the book to make sure the answers were right. There were only 2 pages of info and a tiny square was devoted to the parts of the brain. NO WHERE did it mention taste or artistic ability. I had to go to the internet to find out that my ds had put the wrong answer down. My dh pointed out that the worksheet was from 1986 and was from a different book. (It was written at the bottom of the sheet.) I am so mad! I printed out some really neat info from the internet and am sending it to school along with a note.

To me this is just lazy on the teacher's part. She never checked to make sure that the answers could be found in the book.

What grade is this? Is there any chance the questions came from material she taught in class?

Sometimes if the teacher thinks the book is inadequate, he/she may use other resources. We often have to- a lot of text books out there are really, really pitiful, and we wouldn't do our kids a service if we used them as the main source. Was the artistic/taste ability covered in class using another resource? For example, was ds also supposed to refer to his notes in class, or some kind of handout? I agree it's annoying. If the book sucks, demand a new one, or at least make a packet to supplement it.

That could require a lot of resources the school doesn't have. Depending on the age of OP's ds, I'd assume the teacher either taught the parts of the brain in class and the students took notes or she gave them a handout. The first thing I would do is check his binder for the info. If it's not in there, contact the teacher about your concerns, especially if this is not the first time you've felt that way. IME, it's always better to keep the lines of communication open between parent and teacher.

Re: Ditto

Well my ds is in 6th and he did not have any notes. This is not the first time that he has gotten worksheets that don't match the books. I like the teacher and I understand that it is not her fault that the book stinks. She needed to check, though to make sure that we could find the answers in the materials she sent home, or she should have said some answers will need to be looked up.

Oh and the school is a small Catholic school, so new books are not an option.

I just need to vent, i am over it now. Thanks!
