I usually use watercolors-but lately i have seen some really nice paintings on silk. What would you use to paint on silk? I want it to bewashable-like a playsilk.

You can either use acid dyes or fiber reactive dyes. With them you have the choice of either using resists to control the flow of color or doing a more free flow water color technique. Both will require steaming to fix the dyes to the silk. After that they will be washfast.

What is the process? Hot water? Cold water? How much water? How long to sit?

Thanks!

Check out Susan Patricia's beatiful silks. I've seen them irl and they are fabulous. http://susanpatricia.com/portfolio/index.html

I also paint on silk. The colors are incomparable in vibrance, richness and power. http://www.abrosenlund.com/paintings/
