Has anyone seen the movie? They are wanting to take my 4 yr olds preschool class to a live musical presentation of it, and I am not sure? (feild trip)

Any info is appreciated!

Thx!

My ds(8) discovered it this summer and love love loves Highschool Musical.
It hurts your teeth it's so sweet/sentimental. It's pretty innocent. No kissing, no bullying. The message is you should do what you love and not what others think you should do (ie: if you are a jock you can sing and dance or bake too).

My dd(3) requests to listen to the cd. She sings and dances around to it.

This kind of Disney is nothing new, think of Annette Funicello and Frankie Avalon and this is the version for our time.

Perhaps you would feel better if you watched the movie and then you could decide if it's what you want your dc to see.

yeah...sounds good.

I will rent it.

I just feel like everything is getting so much more "adult" these days and I have often seen lines and things in cartoons that I totally do not approve of....stuff I wouldnt want my 4 yr old repeating, kwim?

DD1 came home with a birthday party invitation that had "High School Musical" on it. She is 5. I was a bit shocked, although I admit I've never seen it. I don't allow her to watch anything like "that's so raven" "the naked brother band" "the sweet life of zack and cody". I just don't think she's old enough, those kids are quite a bit older than her. I think renting it and then deciding would be best.

I think the preschool is insane for taking 20 4yr olds to a play in the first place. All I have to say to them is "have fun!!!!!!!" :

What are they thinking? Mine wont be sitting quietly through a 2 hour production! I know my child!

there's nothing bad in it, so im sure your 4yo will love it. My 4yo DD loves it, but all that singing annoys me

My kids think it's just awful but they are teens so perhaps that is why. Our young friends who are 5-11 really seem to like it though.

I don't see how a 4 year old will "get it" ikwim? I mean, it's about highschool kids and highschool situations. Yes, it's all innocent and fun, but it's still a LOT older than 4 years old. And ditto to the two hour show, they are crazy!!

My just turned five year old loves HSM, and we would definitely go to a stage show if there was one locally.

IMO, it's a cute, silly movie. But we don't screen or censor our child's viewing, so my opinion might not be worth much.

ITA. It's harmless, but the whole premise is over the head of my 7 year old.

it is pretty tame but I can't imagine my 4 year old getting it or caring to sit through more then a few minutes of it. its really geared toward the 6-10 year old set. and more towards girls.

I totally agree!

Although my DD is only 2.5, I know a few 4 year olds and don't see them being into this, either.

my 4.5 year old LOVES HSM and HSM 2. She just went to a dance & karaoke birthday party and had "the. best. time. EVER!!!" it's very g-rated and the songs are insanely catchy. i have them stuck in my head ALL the time.

My ds did not make it through "Seusical the musical" earlier this year. We were *lucky* to make it through the first half.

It's just fun songs and lots of dancing. Our four year old loves it. Our 6 year old thinks he's Sharpay.

My DD's, 3 and 5, absolutely adore HSM and HSM2. In September my mom and I took them to see HSM on Ice and they loved every minute of it! Neither even attempted to leave their seat during the persormanc ethey were so enchanted my the music! personally, I enjoy listening to the soundtrack in the car too!

I don't think it's just for girls --

My almost-5yo twin boys LOVE High School Musical! They're always running around saying, "What team? WILDCATS! What team? WILDCATS!" "Keep your head in the game!"

And I always have that one song from the cafeteria in my head "Oh no no no no, no no no, stick with what you know! If you wanna be cool, follow one single rule..."

I think it's adorable.

Now, HSM2 is definitely a little more mature, and I don't let them watch that.

: I think I love the songs and dancing as much as my kids do.

Our local children's theatre did a live production of it. It's apparently a little different than the movie, more "kiddish" as my kids say than "teenish". We haven't gone to the live one.

Both my 4 and 8 year olds have watched the movie and enjoyed the songs. They played musical for a week or so. The songs are very catchy. I don't think a 4 yr old is going to "get" the whole story, but there's nothing scary or sexual or anything like that. It's a neat story, with a good message (be yourself, it's ok to be different).
