We have a new baby!!! I started to post last night to say we were leaving, but contractions got intense and on top of each other so suddenly that I was totally not able to concentrate on any task and ended up closing out the window before posting. And dh wasn't about to wait another minute for me to post before we left.
The quick version is that I asked the mw to strip my membranes at my 40 wk appt. yesterday. I was doubtful that it would work since we tried it twice with my first dd and it never worked. But I've had early/pre-labor for the past week solid and was dialated to 3-4 cm and 70% effaced. And I really wanted to have dh around to help for the first 2 weeks before I'm all alone. The mw said her success rate was 20 for 21. After the appt. we took a long walk, at least an hour long. Then we chilled at home for a bit. I took a short nap. Then we took the kids to the childcare center on base and went out. We had Bennigans wonderful food. Had a few semi-convincing contractions while there, but I still wasn't convinced it was really for real this time. Got home, talked dh into dtd. Immediately after we were done, things kicked into high gear. I started having super intense contractions 4 min. apart. By the time we got things packed up and picked up the kids, dh was begging me to get going and call the mw's. I told him I needed to time them first, which didn't happen because I couldn't even concentrate enough to press the silly space bar. So, we left the house. Got to the birth center around 9:45. Labor was manageable until the last hour. She was born in the water at 12:55 a.m. I did not deal with the last hour well. There was a lot of vocalizing, screaming and tears. Some throwing up even. I was NOT graceful. The first words baby heard were "oh shit!" when she was placed on my belly.
DD2 slept through the whole thing and wanted nothing to do with her new sister when she woke up. DD1 came in as baby was coming out and was just thrilled to be there. She helped cut the cord. She was awake until 2:30 a.m. and had to be carried to the car kicking and screaming by dh because she did not want to leave her new baby sister. All in all, it was a nice birth, but definitely more difficult than my second one was. She was also an entire lb. heavier than my second dd was. Here's all the info:
