Can I use fabric softener on baby stuff (not diapers of course). We are static city here... it is making me nuts. I was folding receiving blankets and kept getting zapped.
Thanks!
To be on the safe side, I wouldn't at first. Some babies are incredibly sensitive. I'd just call it good for now and see if there are any skin issues since your clothes will be touching baby's skin. I know I spent a good amount of effort for a couple weeks washing DS's clothes on their own until I realized he wasn't sensitive at all now they all go together.
I haven't been using fabric softener, but I am using Bounce dryer sheets. I found a white package that seems to be free of any things that might cause allergic reactions. So far, no problems and no static!
I always do- but I've never had a baby who was bothered by it (allergies). We have a dog and I have really long hair, so if I didn't use fabric softener we'd get big hairballs on everything, yuck.

Oops- that is what I meant- dryer sheets. I am going to see if any of the natural companies like seventh generation makes them unscented... just in case. I held up an afghan the other day and it had tie-dye diaper liners stuck all over it- 8 of them!
You can use white vinegar in the washer either for the rinse cycle or in the main cycle and it acts as a natural fabric softener. I cannot remember how well it does on static, but give it a try and see!
FYI: Unless your washer isn't rinsing well, there's no vinegar smell left on the clothes.
I don't use any on baby clothes, but DD has/had super sensitive skin. All I can use to wash her hair and body is California Baby Super Sensitive wash or Cetaphil and All Free and Clear on her clothes. I would suggest not using it at first, then trying it a little later and seeing what happens. Trust me, the last thing you want is head-to-toe eczema on a newborn...

I'd try the vinegar first if you'll be CDing and putting the dipes in the dryer. You can get a fabric softener ball and just put vinegar in instead. Even dryer sheets can cause a residue on dipes (especially pockets) which will cause stink and repelling issues. If you're not CDing or you are but you'll be hanging dipes dry then go for the dryer sheets!
