Measuring Fundal Height

How do you do it?

I'm wondering if I'm doing it right. I got 20cm at 16.5 weeks and now that I'm 20w I"m getting 26cm. Measuring from top of pelvic bone to top of firm uterus. Any tips to make sure I'm finding the right thing?

Thanks

Well, first thing you should know is that measurements vary depending on the person doing the measurement....as much as 3-4 cm even, sometimes!!

Also, you don't actually start measuring until after 20 weeks. Until then, you are just feeling where the fundus is in relation to landmarks' (mother's pubic bone, and umbilicus). Generally, around 20 weeks, it is about at the level of the umbilicus.

I'm assuming you are measuring yourself? What about having someone else (a friend, your partner) measure? It might come up differently.

But, honestly, I've never measured at 20 weeks; I only start measuring around 22 weeks +.

IME, whenever you are measuring 'large for dates' early on, and you are sure you don't have twins, things seem to level out near the end of pregnancy.
