What are you in the mood for?

Bawling your eyeballs out? Laughing?

Good Omens by Neil Gaiman and Terry Pratchett is very funny.

I don't like "bawl your eyeballs out" books very much.

The last book I read was The Foot Book by Dr. Seuss.

Seriously, I've been steeped in YA Fantasy. I can't even remember the last I read a "grownup" book!

Wel I am a huge fan of juvenile literature. Seriously, here are some of my favorites:

The Abhorsen Trilogy by Garth Nix
The Secret Country Trilogy by Pamela Dean
The Young Wizard Series by Diane Duane
The Chronicles of Prydain by Lloyd Alexander
Twilight, New Moon and Eclipse by Stephanie Meyer
Harry Potter series

As far as adult books go, I am a huge fan of Laurell K. Hamilton, her books are always a good read. Lord of the Rings trilogy and The Hobbitt are fabulous. The Stand is my favorite Stephen King book.
PM if you want to know what any of these books are about.

i have read LTR and the stand and enjoyed them both a lot, but at times felt a little 'lost in sauce' with LTR... all those details!!! u also read i think the first 3 or 4 in the harry potter series when they first came out. i really loved the first few, but all at once i just grew incredibly bored with it and never got any farther.

Funniest book I've ever read - My Life on a Plate by India Knight
Recent good read - Tender Bar by JR Moehringer
Book I just love - Red Tent by Anita Shreve
Sad, but excellent memoir - Glass Castle by Jeanette Walls
Funny but absolutely useless - Sweet Potato Queens Book of Love
Author to devour - David Sedaris (esp. if you like Augusten Burroughs)

That's all I can think of, which is sad because I read constantly. But it's been a long time since I loved a book.

Take care,

I agree about Memory Keeper's Daughter. Eh.

I love:

-Fortress of Solitude
-The Red Tent

-anything by Barbara Kingsolver (e.g., Poisonwood Bible, like mentioned)
- " " Madeleine L'Engle
- " " Gabriel Garcia Marquez
-High Fidelity by Nick Hornby

I'm reading Sue Monk Kidd's Secret Life of Bees, and it's pretty good.

Here's an amazon Editorial review....much, much better than I could ever do. I'm horrible about talking about books. I just know what I don't like

I re-read APFOM almost every year. It's become like a touchstone for me. Every time I read it, there's something new I've missed or didn't catch the true meaning before or I see things differently after living in this world another year. Sometimes, esp. when I read Stephen King, I tend to gloss over a bunch of stuff so I wouldn't let the length of the novel intimidate you. But I love Owen Meany. It's really hard for me to describe. It's just very special. And hilarious. And heartbreaking. And just awesome I think we've had an Owen thread in here before...let me check. Whatever you decide, happy reading

anything by augusten burroughs
memoirs of a geisha (arthur golden)
white oleander (janet fitch)

i enjoyed the above...didn't read the others.

my current favorite and can't put the book down author is haruki murakami - Kafka on the Shore, The Wind-Up Bird Chronicles and South of the Border, West of the Sun are just wonderful

Me either, and I didn't understand why it was so popular...

This one is not exactly like those above, but it's excellent...it's called The Blood of Flowers, set in medieval Persia about a carpet weaver.

The Mermaid Chair by the same author is my favorite book of all time.

I loved the curious incident of the dog in the nighttime. We have similar tastes in books. I just finished reading Revolutionary Road (Richard Yates) and really enjoyed it. Someone recommended The Secret Life of Bees- that was a great book, too.

I've been wanting to pick up My Life on a Plate because I keep hearing how great it is. Thanks for mentioning that one, zaftigmama.

I normally read nonfiction (i'm a huge booknerd with books on poverty solutions in Africa & elsewhere) but I try to branch out into the fictional world now & again.
