Can I get some sleep?

Was pretty much up all night last night, dozed off and on for 1.5 hours at the birth center, but you all know how hard it is to sleep soon after your LO is born. Had a 1.5 hour nap today. Then we got the girls to bed by 7 and around 8 we decided to go to bed. Piper was sleepy all day long. But as soon as we turned out the lights, she woke up and she has been soooo....fussy. She's acting like she's just starved. She has to be sucking on something constantly. I sure hope my milk comes in soon. She'll be so much happier (I hope). She's pretty much been crying since 8 p.m. She nurses for a bit, then gets upset. I have her in a sling right now and I *think* she might be asleep for real, no sucking going on. But I'm afraid to set her down so I can sleep. DH is definitely getting the a.m. shift so I can get some good sleep. Aren't newborns suppose to just be sleepy for the first 24 hours? Why is she so fussy, even producing real tears here? She was like this last night too. From the time she was born until about 10 a.m., she had to have something in her mouth or she was upset. But then she slept the better part of the day. Ugh. My other two slept 6 hour stints at night from birth. I guess I'll just have to be on Piper's schedule for a few days sleeping during the day and letting dh take care of the girls.

I was wondering why you're up! Take care, Mama. Hope you get some sleep.

Libby is doing the same! Now even with milk she wants to suck and suck only now we have spit up and more diapers for me to clean. LOL You think she would stop when full!

Hugs. DD was like that for 3 days after birth and I thought I would go insane. Can't imagine doing that and caring for two other LOs. Hopefully Piper's need to suck will decrease once your milk comes in - I know that DD's did, it just took a while for my milk to come in last time.

Poor sleep deprived mama! Hugs!
I used to think newborns would sleep at least the first few days until I had my first and then the second. They came out, latched on and didn't even think about sleeping for almost the first year of their lives. Unless we rocked them, tricked them with pacifiers... I felt like walking on cotton for the first few months with both, even throwing up from exhaustion.
I am not sure if it has to do anything with your milk coming in, it might help once she's got a full tummy, don't know. I hope she'll get better for you so you can get some rest.
Ok, gotta brag just a bit now tho, I finally got rewarded with a sleepy newborn. My faith in mankind is restored.... Been sleep deprived with the first two for 4 years straight and can finally enjoy a baby who thinks napping is great.

Sounds like you deserve it. Well, Piper has already found her fingers/thumb, but she has trouble keeping them in. I think she's just going to have a high sucking need, which doesn't totally surprise me since my others did too, but I just didn't notice it this much this early on with the other two. And the other two weren't so mixed up on days/nights as Piper seems to be. Piper is an excellent nurser, no latch problems at all, seems like she was born to nurse! Bronwynn was an only an okay nurser. But I'm not made to nurse. It's always torture for me, so having one who wants to suck all the time is hard for me. I gave in and broke out the binky already, she reluctantly takes it. I got intermittent sleep from 3 to 10 today. I hope tonight is a bit better.
