Water broke - not sure what to do with myself (UPDATE! #9)

My water broke and usually that sends me into labor. This is slower going I guess. Thing is, it's my first homebirth so now I am just sort of sitting around twiddling my thumbs wishing I could sleep and wondering what to do. No car to pack, no sleeping kids to carry, no one to really call or tell or see. No hospital to go to.

I'm bored I guess!

Cool Enjoy! Get some rest, a baby's coming soon

How exciting!!! My last labor also started with my water breaking and I tried to sleep as much as I could. So, try to get some rest if you aren't "in labor" yet. You'll be holding that baby soon!! Easy labor vibes your way!!!

Do get some rest. And you proberly already no all the things not to do after your water broke.

If your bored - do you have everything ready. I wish I remember to get the camera out to take some pics.

Mine did also and it took 46 Hours for labor to start:

Sending Easy labor vibes to you too.

how exciting!!!!!!!!!!

When my water broke, my midwives told me to drink lots of recharge and/or gatorade to stay hydrated and help baby replenish the fluids.

Good luck mama!!!!!!!!

I'm hoping that you aren't still twiddling your thumbs and that you are either actively laboring or holding your sweet babe. Can't wait to hear from you!

With my last pregnancy if my water broke my MWs instructions were to call and give them a heads up, eat something, drink a quart of fluid and take a nap.

Your baby is coming soon! YAY!

You know what? I think you should do a belly cast, if you're not contracting. Imagine how cool it would be to see a belly cast done x hours before your kid was born, when you were in early non-contracting labour.
I also think you should eat a full meal and go to bed for a bit.

Thanks everyone!

Lachlan Nolan-James Weeks was born yesterday morning in my bedroom at 10:18am. So 12 hours from water leaking, but labor wasn't in force until after 2am and the hardest labor (intense!) was the last two hours in the tub.

He was 37w5d but weighed 8 pounds 12 ounces and was 21 and 3/4 inches. Almost a full pound bigger than my biggest son to date.

His cord was awesome but the placenta looked a bit old. So I think he just new it was time to come out. He was a great size and for being a bit early like his brothers were (all were 37 and 38 weeks), he's a better nurser than they ever were.

He had the most vernix I have ever seen and even the very seasoned midwife remarked on how much! You can see some first day photos here http://s198.photobucket.com/albums/a...leepy-lach.jpg (even one with big, fat me in the tub).

I will have to update with more photos because he had lots of bruising and facial swelling that's gone away since and now you can see all this long white/blonde hair.

He's nursing really well but seems to be quite gassy and fussy for a newborn. CUTE as a button and we're in love. His brothers just think he's wonderful and I already wonder how I lived without him.

I am still exhausted! Had a bit of bleeding and no sleep, so I was having a tough time even walking to the bathroom without nearly fainting. Some good rest and good food later, I am starting to feel better.

Holy vernix! How wonderful. I'm glad you are all doing well, he is an adorable baby! Do you know why he had so much bruising? Continue to rest and take care of your self. Congratualtions!!

Congratulations mama...he is adorable!!! And wow, that is a lot of vernix. I am in awe of it as neither of my babies had any vernix left at all.

My last son was also vernixy, but then nothing like Lachlan! This is my 6 year old:

The neat thing is, no need to wash it off -- even that much. It rubbed in and wore off on its own quickly.

I've NO idea why he was bruised! I thought maybe from when he was posterior earlier on - maybe malpositioning did it?? I don't see how it could all have happened on the way out. He was lined up and I moaned thru cx's and/or pushed on and off for up to 15 minutes tops.

However, it was the hardest I can remember. It didn't feel right at all and I felt a sense of fear for a few minutes. I had to really push this time.

I found a small bruised area on his forearm today. No clue what from.

Oh, he's sweet! I can see the blonde already. And wow, lots of vernix!!

Sounds like he knew it was time to be born. Now don't forget to take care of you! Are you taking any Floradix? Rest up and take it easy mama.
