egg-allergic kids

Hi Moms,
I was wondering if your egg allergic children are also allergic to goods BAKED with eggs. DS (17 mos) is allergic to eggs (gets hives) cooked alone, and also in pancakes, but for some reason, I'm still wondering if baked goods are safe?

Also, since finding out your child has an egg (or any food) allergy, how long did you or will you wait to introduce other allergenic foods? I would like to give DS some almond milk, but am not sure if that is risky. :

Sorry if these seem to be very basic questions, but I'm new at this, and I want to give DS a variety of eats, but am just so hyperparanoid at this point...

Thank you!

Yes, my son and I are both egg-allergic and react to eggs in baked goods, too.

DariFree is a great-tasting potato-based milk substitute, Rice Milk isn't gluten free and nut milks can be problematic if you're nervous about a potential allergy.

For my DD, 9 months, I'm waiting until she's 2 or 3 to begin introducing her to the "Big 8".

Wow, this is interesting. Do you/your kids stay away from goods that aren't made with eggs, but made in facilities that process eggs (or any other food allergens), too?

Typically, yes. Thy "typically" part depends on the company and how stringent they are about cleaning between batches.

My 20mo DS has peanut and egg allergies. However, he can eat foods with eggs baked in them, just not straight out cooked eggs.

For us, no. We have to be that stringent with dairy precautions because that is an anaphylactic reaction. But because Boo's reaction to egg is strictly GI related (bloating, gas, intense pain, vomiting, diarrhea, etc) we only avoid things that actually contain egg.

We do use things that contain a "may contain" warning.
