Idiot nurse

So DD was 8lb 9oz when she was born Saturday. SUnday she dropped the normal little bit and was 8lb 3oz. Monday at the pediatrician (had to check in, was GBS+ and Dr signed us out after 24 hrs under the condition we would stop in the ped office Monday) the nurse weighed her at 6lb 12oz!! She was very slightly jaundice and they had me waking her every 2 hrs on the hour to make her eat. I was stripping her down to irritate her awake enough to eat and totally tripping.

So first thing this morning (2.5 days after weight in), we go back to weight and she is 8lb 2oz.

Ohhhhh, scale must not have been balanced and such before the last weight because there is no way baby could have lost that much and then regained that much. Baby perfectly healthy, have a great day!

Um, screw you!! I've been waking my ass up, my babies cute little butt up, all night long to shove food down her, worried something is wrong and you didn't set the damn scale right.

Bad to do with a hormonal lady.

Stupid nurse.

they fuss too darn much at the hospitals...so annoying!!!!!!!!!!!

when megh was being buckled into her carseat when we left the hospital, (by nurse, who insisted on being the one to do it...AND we were told WE could NOT carry megh out to the car when we left the hospital...their POLICY...) before we walked outside, the nurse's hand slipped pulling meghs' carseat up towards her head and the nurse's ring scratched my precious baby girl's cheek!!! i was ready to murder this woman. that was meghan's first owie. can you believe that crap?! i was so upset...cried the way home i think...i also was disturbed i couldn't carry my own baby out-ok, yeah, i'd just had a ceserean but come on, or let my mom or jason, my ex, carry her. how messed up is THAT! : stupid nurses is right.

Yeah, scales need to be used by people who understand them. And they need to make sure they are using the same one, cause if it's a different one, it could also give vastly different results. Hugs to you for all the stress that caused. It's no fun waking up a little sleepy newborn, especially when you find out you didn't need to.

Oh, cripes. I'm sorry -- I know how stressful it is when you're worried that baby is not getting enough to eat. The guilt, the worry, the general freaking out. I'm sorry that you had to go through that for no good reason. Glad to hear that baby is okay.

JMO but I would have asked for a reweigh right then! With ds in NICU, every oz matters so when the scale said he'd lost 13oz, they were shocked. We waited a bit and then reweighed him- he'd really only lost about 5 oz. So yeah, any time it doesn't seem right to you, ask them to recheck it!

How un-conscientious of the nurse to not double check a weight that was so far off the first one. You'd think she'd see the discrepancy right away, and think...'hmmm, maybe I should re-do that weight...that seems like a big drop' ???:

Jeepers!!! Imagine all the poor old people who get their blood pressures checked by similarly absent-minded nurses, and end up getting medication for high blood pressure!! ALWAYS QUESTION THINGS IF THEY DON'T SEEM RIGHT! That's my motto, and I'm an RN!! I don't have a lot of trust in many health care professionals (how sad), as I've seen WAY too many mistakes made. (Alternatively, I know MANY wonderful, smart, caring and conscientious nurses as well - but it's the goof-balls that I worry about, especially when it comes to my kids.)

Anyway, I'm glad your little one is doing so well, and I'm sorry part of your 'baby-moon' was spoiled by having to wake up a contentedly sleeping baby.

Wife, Mom of four beautiful children, proud RN
