anyone else going to one income in a few months? - Page 2

I"m going to no income in a few months.: I am the sole breadwinner right now and when I go on maternity leave, I'll be on no income. So I'm saving now and hoping to get a full month home. Doubt I can save more than that though. But visit the frugal families board here because they are great about tips for saving money and cutting your bills down.

I don't know why it is that it makes me feel better to know I'm not the only one.

I have no idea how long I'm going to be off. I have no job security and multiple part-time jobs, so it's a matter of quitting and then finding new jobs. My main night jobs ended with the election and I really should look for new ones, but I am sooooooo tired and the house is positively filthy and not the slghtest bit CPS-friendly and I suddenly feel big and slow and tired and b*tchy.

thanks for all the tips!! We are already ahead on some things, like cc spending/debt, carloan - we don't have any. We are going to be paying off our second mortgage (small second we took out when we bought our house in april to avoid extra insurance fees) here really soon since dh just got a bonus.

I wish we had the time to try out living on 1 income for a few months before it had to happen but like someone said, Dec will be wierd with the holidays and stuff. But Iwas thinking we could maybe take back my paychecks and use that *only* for the extra holiday things, and last minute baby things.

I am trying to get everything I have to buy for baby at the thrift/using cheaper alternatives. I am hoping the big ticket things like car seat, slings and diaper stash people will buy for us through our registry. Most smaller things I put on the registry are "extras" or nice to have things.

We are planning to CD/EC so hopefully that will save $$ although we do have to pay extra for water here so the extra wash will cost extra.

Already we try to eat mostly unprocessed but I anticipate once I am home in Jan I will have even more time to cook. I am planning on cooking and freezing extra twice a week once I'm not working so I have (hopefully) a weeks worth of frozen meals which will be good for probably a dinner + lunch for us.

I have thought about doing the grocery comparison notebook thing before, I'm not sure why I never actually did it. I will definitely have to do it. I'm already trying to shop sales, so...

We have good savings but we don't want to dip onto it. I also want to put some $$ every month into an account for the baby. So we will see how it goes. I have tried to get dh to make a budget before but no success. Maybe I will be able to convince him to do it this time.

Well NOS, it makes me feel better to know that too. Are you finding it difficult to get jobs being so far along??? I wait tables so it's not like I can get disability for a few weeks either. I'm completely on my own for paying for my maternity leave and it's SOOOOOOOO nerve-wracking with Christmas next month and my daughter's 3rd birthday the month after, and then a new little one to care for and pay for. I"m kinda panicking about saving up enough. I think I am just going to try to skate by on the child support I get and whatever I can save in the meantime but it's going to be tough. And that complicates breastfeeding of course going back so early, plus having the kind of job I have. You dont' get a break, you just have a 4-5 hour shift or slightly less. So it's rough, especially on a 27week pregnant lady!
