X-post in BF: Baby born today, need help already - Page 2

Thanks everyone!!

Though he wasn't mucousy at all after birth, he's been coughing up and choking on mucous, so that upsets him. He also seems gassy so I wondered if he was confusing hunger for gas pain.

We had done our best and then suddenly he stopped crying and fell asleep. I like to think that one disposable diaper we had that I changed when he finally wet a little, was keeping him ornery. His attitude changed and he went to sleep.

He's been mostly sleeping since, waking to fuss over mucous or to eat every 2.5 hours. I offer a finger a lot to pacify right now.

I am definitely taking yor advice and hugs! But thankfully I am in better spirits now.

Gina, Worried about you!

Congrats Gina! And ditto to pretty much what everyone else said... sounds like maybe he has settled down now though.

I personally don't like lansinoh but I always let a little breastmilk/colostrum air dry on my breasts before I put my bra back up. That seems to help. And another thing with big boobs, I always had to be really careful of latch, positioning (don't forget tummy to tummy, it's easy to let that slip), and I had to hold their chins "down" when they first latched on and were nursing so they'd keep their little mouths open enough to not make me sore. That last thing was what helped me the most. Good luck!

hi gina! sounds like you are more rested....that is great. and sounds like baby's mucous expelsion is what it might have been...maybe its hard to nurse and breathe for him due to that...poor little guy.

my grandma (maternal) margaret (the one meghan is named after... meghan is welsh for margaret, and also means pearl) had 4 boys...the first is my dad...i still don't know how that woman did it. whew! i admire you. i'm excited for you too. what is his name?

how are you feeling?

CONGRATULATIONS!! I'm glad he's finally sleeping, and hope you get some rest too. Can't wait to hear all about the birth!

Congratulations, Gina! I can't wait to hear how the birth went after you have had some rest.

I was super sore for the first week too. I had scabs, OMG! Here is what helped me:

--changing holds with each feeding (football helped a lot)
--expressing a little colostrum/milk and letting it dry on the nipple or using lanolin after each feeding
--not putting my nursing bra/tank/shirt back on until the nipple was completely dry--air helped me the most
--pulling down on baby's chin and helping baby's lips to curl outward for a good latch
--holding baby in that upright, belly-to-belly position under your chin--she loved that and would sleep for hours that way and it would give my poor boobs a break

Hope it gets better soon!

best thing for the mucus is to keep on nursing!! ds was juicy for a day or so - I hate that gagging sound they make. ugh.

Thanks to all the other mamas who are posting breast feeding help for sore nipples. I'm wondering if we should start a list and get it stickied...

Glad you are doing better, Gina! We have been using mylicon for Conrad -- he was pretty gassy while we were supplementing with formula. Dylan also had vicious gas that we used mylicon for. Hopefully that will be the end of your guys' troubles. Does he have an official name yet???

Congratulations on another boy! Glad to hear things are going better for you two today. Waiting for my 4th boy to make his appearance too. I can't imagine it being a girl. They'll have to pick me up from fainting if I don't see a penis this time!!
