Round Ligament?

DH and I went for a walk tonight and on the way home I was in a wee bit of pain. And by wee bit I mean I had to walk at a snail's pace in order for the pain to be wee instead of WHOA!
So I wonder would heating help tonight? I don't want to over heat the baby though.

Was your pain around your belly or your pubic bone? I've had both. Had to walk really slowly to get home too once. Also after my walks I get a sore pubic bone area. Usually just resting has helped both for me.

I find that when I have them that it helps to stop what I am doing and get in a position where it doesn't hurt for a just a little bit and then keep on going. They normally say to stop what you are doing until it stops and that really does seem to help.

As far as I know, you're only in danger of overheating the baby if there's no way for your body to cool off (so if you immerse yourself in a really hot hottub, that's bad!). As long as you move the heating source around and keep the rest of your body fairly uncovered, I see no reason NOT to use a rice pack or heating pad to relax those ligaments. I have been using a rice pack around my hips and groin the last few nights! It helps so much.

Thanks ladies!
The pain was low, around my pubic bone at a specific spot, and it seemed to radiate out at a 45 degree angle. It felt nice to go for the walk, but the pain wasn't so nice. Either I need to walk more or less. I don't know.

If it's in your groin it's probably spd pain, which does indeed suck. Rice in a sock (use a rubber band to close it) microwaved works great as a heat pack for the groin. I'm having groin pain, too, esp. on the left side.

SPD = symphisis pubis disorder. Your "symphisis pubis" is the place where your pubic bone comes together - it's not really one solid bone but two next to one another, and when our bodies start to relax and stretch to accomodate the kiddo, the juncture between the bones can separate painfully, causing a lot of pain. There's another post about round ligament pain with some advice, but in general -- watch your posture, don't cross your legs, and if it's really a problem, see a chiro who specializes in pregnancy care.
