Being 'double covered' on insurance

So we have UHC Choice Plus here in Texas under DH's work. There is a specific clause in it for Midwives, which is great. I *may* be getting a new job today, keep your fingers crossed, and they offer 100% free insurance. How does it work with a birth (specifically a homebirth) if you are double covered? I know there are a few insurance guru's in here! Thanks in advance :!

Double coverage is fine, I am going to be double covered for my delivery too.

First thing to remember is that the insurance thru your work is your primary insurance and the one thru your spouses is secondary. This means all the bills have to go to the primary first then the claim along with the EOB (explination of benefits) gets sent to the secondary insurance.

Second make sure that your new policy does not have pregnancy concidered a pre-existing condition. If it does then you will need a letter from the other insurance that shows how long you were covered with the (usually 18+ months) other insurance in order to waive the pre-existing clause.

Those are the two most important things to remember. If you need more assistance feel free to PM me. I have worked for two different insurance co. before and am pretty good at manuvering around the system.

Pregnancy can never be a pre-existing condition. That is federal law and it applies to all group insurance plans. So don't worry about that.

I'd take the double coverage, especially since you don't have to pay for your primary plan.

Yep
That's one of the reasons why the international health insurance I used to work for did not offer coverage for people who lived in the US: they had a waiting period of 10 months for pregnancy and that would never roll in the US
