gushing?

My flow had settled down over the past few days, but suddenly I am starting to gush red when I feed him. Like enough to soak through 2 pads. I still have a fair amount of afterbirth pains with each feeding as well.

He's a week old today...

Thoughts? I'll admit I'm probably not really resting as much as I should with older DS around. And yesterday was fairly horrid as far as everyone getting along.

The OB told me when I had DD that essentially all bleeding (even heavy bleeding) was normal as long as it didn't have clots. BFing causes your uterus to contract which is probably why you're getting so much at those times.

But I'd still try to take it easy and let yourself recover. If you continue to see this, I'd call a dr.

Bleeding increasing is a sign that you are not taking it easy enough. Listen to your body and try to rest more. It makes sense that it would increase during nursing, like Valerie said.

I found that my bleeding increased when I came home, as I started puttering around the house and taking care of my son. Finally I told my husband that if he let me, I would continue overdoing it, and asked him to help make me rest and relax. My mom is here now and I'm spending 90% of my time on the sofa. Which is why I'm posting so much today. And my lochia has backed off a lot.

Also consider that you may have some stuck tissue in there. If this doesn't clear up, please go get checked. Watch your temperature, watch for increased blood and pain. I don't remember if I had clotting when this happened to me. I ended up with a D&C.

Almost the only time I bleed is when I'm pumping. Otherwise, I have just a little brown/dark red spotting. I had bad cramps the first 2-3 days after he was born and then it stopped. Then, when I started pumping, WOW did those cramps hit hard and painful!!! It lasted a couple more days then. Now, I get a few slight cramps when I pump, and I definately have gushes when I pump. Not as heavy as the op, but still gushes.

update...

I called, and have been put on bedrest for the weekend. It did all start when DH went to the office (and not the basement office) and I had to function at a normal level...including getting DS to and from school, packing his lunch, trying to catch up on laundry mess that DH left, changing sheets, putting clothes away...yeah, I overdid it.

No fever, I feel fine. Def more cramping, but, my mw thinks my uterus is just kicked into overdrive. I have an appointment Tues that might be moved to Mon if it doesnt settle down.

Today only 4 gushes, 2 after nursing, 2 doing nothing.
