Fish oil and zinc for eczema, now what?

DD6y has had eczema for about 4 years (when she weaned and got her 2 yr shots, hm). We keep it mostly at bay with fish oil, and we've added zinc a few months ago. She still has it on her butt (it used to be all over her belly, back, arms, and legs), and it's itchy, so I'd like to figure out what else we can do to get rid of it. Might she need more or less of some nutrient or food?

Have you investigated food allergies? Perhaps something she eats regularly (wheat, dairy, soy) is causing these symptoms. What about her soap or your laundry soap?

There are wonderful books at our local health food store called Nutritional Healing and Herbal Healing.
There are some GREAT tips for eczema and seborrhea.
I remember reading in there about zinc and fish oil...
also, calendula ointment, witch hazel, increased Vitamin A, and aloe.
I'm dealing with eczema as well and really want to pick up those books. I would recommend them for tips!

She's six. She weaned a long time ago! Hm, but I'm pregnant. Maybe we can use milk topically after the baby is born.

I should mention that we use shea butter topically, but I don't really consider that to be anything more than something to control the rash. It can't prevent the rash or heal the cause of the rash.

Eczema

I was able to control my sons eczema by putting him on a good vitamin and switching his laundry detergent and body wash - what do you use now? Cindy

I only wanted to stop in and say that most do grow out of it. I know that is hard to be of comfort now, but I was the worst eczema kid- all over my face, my eyes, hands, body....I went wholefoods and veg as an adult and I don't deal with it anymore, but mostly I know that most grow out of it.

My parents tried everything. Goat milk, no dairy, soy, no soy, creams, shots, herbs, homeopathy....

Melalady, we use Arm & Hammer, which our ped said should be fine.

I had taken dd to get naet (naet.com for more info), but it was such a hassle--we had to drive to a different city twice a week for weeks--that we stopped going. Maybe I can find a practitioner closer.

My poor kid's tushie!

Julie -
With my son's arms and legs - the only thing that worked for us was switching to a Naturally-based detergent, lotion and baby wash. I found that all the lotions and creams in the stores - still contained allergents that irritated his skin. I did alot of research about this- you can go to http://www.cosmeticsdatabase.com/splash.php?URI=%2Findex.php
and find out the ingredients and toxic levels of what you are currently using.
I currently purchase all my products from an catalog/on-line company and pay prices cheaper than Walmart. Since, I switched over , my entire family hasn't had any skin problems or allergies. If you want to know about the company I buy from email me at melalady@optonline.net - it's all done by shopping on-line, at first I was scared to try it but I was tired of everything else not working. We are now going on two years without any flare ups. Now it is certain foods that will make his cheeks red but that's the only reaction he gets - his now four and I know what will cause it now.
When you go skindeep - check out your body washes and creams - it amazed me how these companies can put these chemicals into our products , cause these reactions in us and get away with it. If you want to know more, I have been researching this for 3 years since my son's skin was constantly raw and I lost my sisiter to cancer. And I love sharing what I have learned - we really need to start educating ourselves - there is so much info out there and the Dr.s only give us, what they want to.

Does your DD take a good probiotic? What about a good B complex vitamin? You say fish oil, is there vitamin A, D , and DHA in it?

Have you ever read about the methylation cycle? CHeck this out:
http://www.enzymestuff.com/methylation.htm

Your daughter's methylation cycle could be blocked somewhere and the fish oil is helping it get back to normal but it can throw things out of whack to where it needs a lot of some other vitamin.(B vitamins)
