DS and DD taking baths together - too old?

DD is almost 2.5, and DS just turned 5. DD does try to grab DS's penis, a problem he solves by covering himself with his hand. I have asked him if he'd rather take his bath by himself, and he says no. They do like to play and have a good time in there. I think the penis grabbing is a minor annoyance for DS but not enough to make him not want to play with DD in the tub.

What do you think? Are they too old for the community tub? How old *is* too old?

I don't think they are too old, but a conversation about appropriate touching might be needed with your dd.

My kids are almost 5 and almost 3. They still bathe together. DD started grabbing her brothers penis too and I explained to her that she could only touch her private parts, not someone else's. Unfortunately, my son laughed and it became a game to them so she still does it every once in awhile. I just keep reminding her not to touch.

My kids also have a bunch of fun in the tub together and don't want to stop bathing together. I'm going to pretty much let them decide when they want to stop bathing together.

My 21 month old and my 5 year old bathe together all the time. They touch each other sometimes, but I don't think it's a big deal -- just curiousity/humor (they both get the giggles about it). We've done the private parts talk with our daughter but she doesn't seem to really get it yet (she doesn't want her parts to be private, she likes being naked, etc) and I'm not concerned. She'll get it eventually.

When one of them (or both of them) are no longer comfortable bathing together, then it'll stop. I don't care how old they are when it happens . . . I think it would be pretty cool if they never grew into that sort of discomfort around each other (or around us).

My 3yo and 5yo boys sometimes grab at each other in the bath . I've had the "private parts" talk but foe now it's harmless.

And for the record, my brother and I were about 4 and 6 when we stopped taking baths together.

All my kids love bathing together, all squished in. 8yr old DD, 6yr old DS...and the younger girls, all don't care at all. SOMETIMES i'd say in the last 6 months, 8yr old DD will opt to take her own bath, but often still hops in with the others.
If 2 yr old DD grabs at my DS's penis, which she does sometimes, it seems to be endlessly funny for all of them, and then he tells her to stop. I would always help him if he wanted me to.

It just has never been an issue for them and If it was, then I feel confidant they would change things.

Bath time is a time they really enjoy all together.

Any of them sometimes bath with me as well, although 8yr old doesn't fit so well, and gets a little grumpy. those days seem to be over.... I also notice DS has pretty much stopped getting in with me too, probably younger because of the gender thing and because he has always been more modest...(DP is more modest than myself, so he definitely
follows his model somewhat)


I always bathed with my siblings and remember my sister hoping into the shower with me in high school once because i was taking too long, laughing hysterically.

My kids are 7 and 2 and they still choose to bathe together on a regular basis. When one of them expresses a desire to be alone we'll follow that lead.

I don't think that they are too old. Like PP, I would just explain to DD that we don't touch other people's private parts.

My kids still take a bath together. I'm sure DD will let me know when she doesn't want to anymore.

We aren't the least bit modest here, so I don't think it is too old at all.

My kids are just a bit younger than yours and it is not an issue here. I think it is too old when one of them starts getting uncomfortable with it.

I nannied for a family where the brother was 6 and the sister was 5 (they were 13 mos apart). They bathed together all the time, and I never thought there was anything odd or inappropriate about it.

The eldest (10) bathed or showered by herself. Probably for the peace after a day with those two!

1 y dd takes her bath first, then we add more hot water and 3 y ds takes his. I don't oppose them baithing together - just no room. We don't have a real tub, it's a cement mixer. With them both in, it gets crowded.
