How do *you* store your home-baked bread?

I've been baking our own bread more and more in the bread machine. After the family is done devouring their initial slices, I put the rest in a plastic shopping bag or occasionally a ziploc plastic bag. As I'm reducing the number of plastic bags in my house, I'm interested in hearing what others do.

What would happen if I used some of the "pillow case" gift bags I've collected. They're simply cloth. Would the bread dry out on me? Can I keep the cloth-covered bread in the refrigerator?

I use the plastic bags we inevitably get. We use cloth shopping and grocery bags, but we always get food packaged in plastic-- hot dog buns, baby carrots, etc.

i keep mine in a brown bag. i think cloth would work if it was a tight weave, or if you double bag it. i wouldnt keep it in the fridge- it will go stale super fast. sometimes i will slice a loaf and stick it in the freezer. lasts forever!

We bake 2-3 times a week. I wrap the loaf in a tea towel and keep it in a bread box (wooden bread box from IKEA). If it sits for a few days we use it for toast but generally we don't have a problem.

OMG, a reason to make a trip to Ikea!

What about waxed paper bags? I have some lunch sized ones that I like, but if you could find ones big enough for bread, that may works.

I'm bad LOL DH hates how I store bread. I simply make it, cut slices from the pan (non teflon pans too btw ) and then I leave the uneaten bread in the pan and put it back in the cold oven to store. I don't cover it or anything. The end peice can get a bit crunchy when its stored like that but the kids and I don't mind that so it works for us

We generally wrap ours in cloth bags, but honestly, bread doesn't last long in our house! I bake a loaf a day generally, because we eat it fast.
