I've been taking comfort in my pediatrician's reassurances that my daughter's (19 months) eating behavior and poop patterns are normal and nothing to worry about. He is generally a great, low-key, non-interventionist, attachment-friendly pediatrician, so I have had no reason to distrust him.
BUT ... my DD's issues just seem too consistent with what I read here to ignore.
Given that she nurses a lot still -- at night and during the day -- what does this seem like, to you?
LITTLE INTEREST IN MOST FOODS. This is what she'll eat:
eggs with cheese
cheese
wheat CARR crackers or
wheat animal crackers
broccoli
hot dogs
tomato juice
pork sausage
brown rice
white rice
soy sauce
yogurt
pasta
sometimes cantalope
sometimes roasted carrots
sometimes oatmeal
HER POOPS:
rarely (it has happened, but it is a cause for celebration when it is)solid -- usually in either of two forms:
a) creamy -- like soft hummus -- with lots of chunks of recognizable food, with yellow strings of mucus. Never bloody or pink.
b) "stainy" -- green or yellow stains on the diaper, with oily/acidic smells; urine seems acidic.
GAS: In the morning, but not tons.
EXCEMA/SKIN:
Has history of it on back of her knees, little bit on arms, some blotches on legs
RASHES:
Often red rashes on entire vulva, lower buttocks, around anus
SPEECH:
Understands everything, but doesn't use tons of words on her own. Have been concerned about potential delay (has older, 4 year old brother)
SLEEP:
Wakes a lot at night, but not hard to put back to sleep with nursing
MOOD:
Almost always cheerful, energetic, playful.
What do make of this? The biggest red flags for me are her poop -- and her very limited diet ... and I haven't done enough elimination diet food logging yet to know. But do these raise red flags? Our pediatrian chalks it up to toddler diahhrea and normal toddler pickiness (my son wasn't at all picky).
