Best way at use recycled wool at night

We need something new at night; our BG one-sizes are soaking through by 9. I don't mind changing her, but it would be great if our bed weren't soaked. I know lots of people live and die by wool at night. I have some sweaters I was thinking I could use to make covers. What would be the best way to do this to make them bullet-proof at night? Should I definitely felt? Should I do more than one layer? Should I put an extra layer between the legs? Do I need gussets? Any other hints? And what thread do you all find to be the best non-wicking thread? I had some diapers before be a bit leaky about the stitching.

I use wool at night and have tried felted, unfelted, one layer, two layers.. etc. I find they all work for me but I use super absorbant dipes also. I don't even mess with lanolizing my covers now, I find they work fine w/o it, but you have to have a dipe that doesn't get sopping wet. For a dipe that doesn't quite absorb enough I would prob use either one or two felted layers, depends on how thick your sweater is. Instead of two full layers I have tried just sewing in a strip down the middle for extra protection and that works great, keeps it from being too bulky. Try it, I find that you can't beat wool, and it's cheap too. On thread I don't think it matters because the wool fluffs up around the stitching and protects it. Or you can use 100% poly and not worry.
