Postpartum bleeding- TMI

I didn't bleed a long time after I had DD1. I am 8 days postpartum and still bleeding bright red, musucy, chunky at time, etc. I just don't feel like the recovery is happening like it did with my DD1. Everything feel off...I posted before about shakes, temp intolerance, and general woozyness.

Thoughts? Is that type of bleeding normal at this point?

I was bleeding like that for more than 3 wks w ds2. No dizziness... tho, maybe you should take an iron supplement?
I just stopped bleeding now at 14 days pp, but wouldn't be surprised if it started up again - usually it does when I am overdoing it. My discharge was bright red up until it stopped a couple of days ago. My understanding is that as long as it's not big clots or you are soaking pad after pad within a short amount of time, it's probably fine.
If you get the chance maybe you could try taking it easy for a while and see if it gets better.

I bled like that with DS1 for two weeks, clots and all. At the time I had no idea it could be any other way. (With this pg I've bled way less) As long as you're not soaking one big pad in an hour (or less) and the clots are not bigger than a golf ball, it sounds normal. Of course it can't hurt to take an iron supplement and contact your MW/OB if you are still worried.

I've always been told, and it's been my experience that any increase in bleeding or return to bright red color means that you're doing too much...even if you don't feel like you're doing too much. It can be frustrating, but it's really important to take it easy now...while it's "acceptable" and try to avoid falling out weeks or months down the line, kwim? Especially as we head into cold and flu season...

Seconding the conventional wisdom that if you are bleeding a lot, you may be doing too much. Some iron might be beneficial too, if you are feeling woozy and droopy. Try to take it easy... I've had to announce loudly that I WILL overdo it if allowed and that I need help taking it easy and resting.

You are SO NOT going in! I hope that you made it clear to him that you are NOT GOING IN.

You aren't going in, are you?

Ok, that explains it. My bleeding was slowing down but last night there was a lot more, but then I had done a lot of house work with the older kids gone all day. Will take it easy the next few days.

So um.... your not going to go to work right? You should mail the guy a dirty diaper!

Warning: Gross

OK, so I had this baby 2 days ago but I cannot stand the smell of the blood. It is like liver. AWFUL. I know there is nothing I can do about it but wait it out but... ugh! I change these pads every time I pee but still, it is bad. Is this normal?

Sorry to hijack the thread. Just figured while we are talking about bleeding I would throw it in...

Give it until Day 6 or 7 and it should have slowed down by then, especially if you make sure you are taking it easy.

I was freaking out about the bizarrely sweet smell of my lochia until I realized that my sainted husband had purchased pads with "odor neutralizers" that emitted a "clean scent" to let you know they are working. So everytime I bleed, my crotch emits this fake flower scent. Thank god the pads are almost gone. I'll trade liver for fake flowers any day.

I continue to be amazed that we even BOTHER putting TMI in the title of any of our posts... from lochia to mucus plugs to blooming butt, I think we have demonstrated that there is no such thing as TOO MUCH information around here.
