Not an allergy but still gets rashes??

Had our son checked for food allergies. We long suspected milk allergy due to very colicky infant and then when solids where introduced he had a rash. He was recently tested for diary, soy, wheat, eggs, and peanut allergy with a scratch and blood test and everything was negative. So they said we could start dairy again slowly and to start with yougurt or cheese. We gave him a yo baby yogurt yesterday and he did great and loved it so today he had another one and when he asked for more we gave him a second serving. Then about 2 hours later he had a wide rash on his bottom. It almost looked like a wide rug burn and then this afternoon (about 6 hours later) under his eye turned purple it looked like a bruise. What is this about? Kamie

could have been a false negative. testing is not 100%. i'd stay away from dairy since he does seem to be reacting to it.

good luck.

Trust that you know more than the tests. Follow your instinct. I don't think he's ready for dairy yet.

I do not put a lot of stock in those tests. Even my allergist says observation trumps test results.

Well something is officially an allergy when it gives an IGE immune response, you can be senstive to something and not be allergic to it.

ok being sensitive makes sense to me. The allergist did say he thought is was a dairy intolerance and to introduce foods that are lactose free but he also said to start with yougurt. Is their a lactose free yougurt? Can you be lactose intolerant but do okay with breast milk? I thought breast milk was loaded with lactose.

He said start with yogurt because fermented dairy like yogurt ect are less likley to cause reactions.
