Thinking of getting an Amby Baby Hammock...

I know I might be jumping the gun a bit here, considering Piper is only 4 days old, but she seems much fussier/harder to please than my other two did from birth. So far, she won't sleep longer than a 1 hour stretch unless we are out and about and/or she's in the sling and I'm upright walking/moving. Night is really hard because I *think* she's used to all the noise and sleeps better when the girls are being noisy around her. And she has to be on me in a fetal position or constantly attached to the boob to sleep. Every time I lay her down, she wakes within a minute. She loves to be swaddled and does a bit better if I keep her wrapped up in a swaddling blanket. She's nursing or sucking constantly and I have given in and given her a Avent binky which she's not terribly fond of, but I just can't sit and nurse her all day long and she can only find her thumb half the time at this point.

I'm really okay with her *so far* fussy nature, I think I was made to be a mommy and I love babies! But I know that once dh leaves I'm going to need to be able to get some sleep at night and put her down some during the day to get things done and tend to my other girls. We're going to buy a swing tomorrow and see if that helps a bit, but we're also thinking about getting an Amby Baby Hammock for night. I need her to sleep a bit longer stretches at night (even as a newborn, I think it's okay to ask for more than 30-60 min. stretches, my other two slept 4-6 hour stretches from birth.) If I could get a few 2-3 hour stretches at night, I'd be happy. But as long as she's laying next to me, she thinks she needs to nurse constantly and if I move her away from me/put her in the cosleeper, she wakes right up anyway and then...of course, needs to nurse. It's a lose/lose situation.

So, anyone use an Amby baby hammock before? And any other suggestions for the fussier baby? She has cried more in her first 4 days of life than my other two did in their first month. I'm loving being an experienced mommy, but I sometimes still feel like I can't make her happy no matter what.

This is how it was with ds and I didn't know about the Amby Baby back then. This time around I am not taking my chances. It was the only item that I asked for. DD isn't here yet, but it is here waiting for her.

You can buy one used off of ebay or craigslist and they have an excellent resale value.

Yeah, I have my eye on a few on Ebay. We will bid tonight if they don't go up too high.

We used one for William and it was great! He wasn't particularly fussy, but it was hard to get him to take good naps until we bought that. I'd definitely recommend it!

Yay! Can't wait to hear how it works for you!

I was lusting after one of those when pregnant with dd2, but never managed to fit it into the budget. I also wonder where to put it... But, if it works, I may just have to figure those things out!

The only thing I don't like is that they aren't big enough for baby and mommy

I have one this time around too, no baby yet so I haven't used it, but setting it up was incredibly simple, and so is moving it around, so all in all I think it is going to be a really good thing.
