Doulas,

What do you include in the packet you give to new or prospective clients? I have sent off for information from our state health department on breastfeeding and have a few other resources and pain relief and interventions. Would love to hear what others include.

what I include

Information on interventions: pitocin, epidurals, pain meds

Information on cloth diapering/babywearing

C Section articles

Handout on pushing/labor positions with pictures

VBAC articles if applicable.

I tailor mine to how well I know the client and what they need but those are the basics.

Oh, and a "when to call" sheet

Great question, I would like to know what other ppl do as well. Thanks! Sara

A sheet on what an ALACE trained doula provides.

Info on what I provide.

Contract.

Info from the thinking woman's guide about narcotic and epidural use

Info on cesarean stats

Info on nutrition and exercise during pregnancy.

Info on local LLL group meeting times and days, along with Leader names and contact numbers.

I have a packet...

Pregnant Woman's Bill of Rights
What Every Woman Needs to Know About Cesarean Sections
Typical interventions (what happens at our local hospital)
The "Post Partum Promise" -- google it, it's a great handout
Induction Fact Sheet (a CIMS handout)
a few handouts on pain/pain meds/epidurals

Then I have a long med-journal study called "Evidence Based Practices for Newborns" that's all about cord clamping, vit K, eye goop, 3rd stage pit, etc etc. It's a killer article, and it includes EVERYTHING you could ask about.

ETA: that's what I give clients. Potential clients get my background info (experience, etc), how to get a hold of me, and my contract.

Yuma Doula

Tried to find the evidence based practice for newborns study online but couldn't. Could you tell me where I can find it? Thanks.

lemme go look....

I believe it's in medscape...

Yeah, it's in medscape (you have to register for it, so I can't link you to the exact article, but it's free to register). Once you're registered, look up "evidence newborn" and I believe it's the first article. Authors are Mercer, Erickson-Owens, Graves, and Haley. It's basically a summary of a bunch of other articles.
