how do I find a practicioner?

where do I go to get my son tested for allergies/sensitivites?
How do I google or where do I ask?

Our area is not terribly progressive (they lynch HB midwives here and hunting season is practically mandatory and no one knows what homeopathy is in ordinary conversation, and if you tell people you are avoiding sugar and flour they look at you cross-eyed, KWIM?)

So I don't know where to begin, but I know that a child who is only 2.75 yo should not have skin problems and intestinal problems and complain often of abdominal pain or joint pain and be sick (vomiting) as often as he is. And my older son and I are fine, so it isn't just that we are being exposed to enviro toxins.

My gut is telling me that it's food problems. I just KNOW it's food problems but now that I am a single mum I have no choice but to send him to daycare and there they serve terrifically awful foods - conventional, hormone-ridden, sugar-laden, "USDA-approved foods" and pasteurized, wretched, cow milk at every opportunity.

And they will do nothing until I can get a doc note stating that he MUST have foods supplied by me. Then all is well, but until then, these well-meaning folks will continue to put that modern-day crap into his poor little belly.

So I need a damn doctor so I can make my child well! I have had enough of this and I am spitting vinegar at this point over a poor, suffering child and a community of folks who believe that sick is "normal!"

But how do I search for one? I don't have friends that are into natural healing. I just started learning about energy healing methods and I did find a Chinese herbalist, but I need someone "official" who can write a slip stating that he needs me to supply his food so I can get him off the USDA-poison-kids-for-profit-train.

I think that you need to find a naturopathic/homeopathic MD--and, as you know, they are hard to come by. BTW, I have the same problem with preschool--Trix yogurt, are you f-ing kidding me???

Anyhow, you will have to keep searching in your area. I can't remember how I found my guy; I think it was just a bunch of random internet searches--"pediatric homeopath/naturopath." Also, post in your tribe region to see if anyone can be of help.

I wish you the best of luck.

If you want allergy testing then take the child to an allergist. If you have insurance you can check their list of providers for allergists. Otherwise you can ask your PCP for a referral to one or check around people you know for a recommendation. You can always google allergists in your city also.

Hey thanks for looking! He's in Drexel Hill, which is really far, but who knows, I need one and if it turns out he's it, then he is.

Arduinna, thanks for that. I didn't really even know how this works. I have never had to make sense of any of it before because I have had no reason to be a "consumer" of healthcare until now, KWIM?
I figured because his ped (which we only have because the gov't subsidized daycare requires physicals) sees "no connection between allergies and seborrheic dermatitis" that I had to find someone all on my own, outside the insurance and just find a way to pay out of pocket.

You can go into your ped and DEMAND a referral to an allergist. Tell him that you respect his opinion (even if you don't, just to butter him up) but would like a second one. Or check your insurance. For mine, I don't need a referral, so I just went to the list of providers and found a ped. allergist. Good luck.

My GP was not very helpful for my allergies either, so I went to one on my own. If I hadn't my vocal chord dysfunction would never have been dx and treated. Your insurance may not require an official referral to cover a visit to a specialist, it really depends. Mine at the time ( BCBS) didn't.
