Water heater?

Hello,

I'm due in February and I'll be having a home waterbirth (well, that's the plan). Last time I had a waterbirth it was in a birth centre in a tub that I could adjust the heat with the tap. This time at home I'll be using the BPIAB. My MW says the pool water heater is unnessecary and that we can just dump in a kettle of hot water if need be. Do you agree? For some reason the heater just sounds nice. Is it really unnessecary?

Thanks!

I just had a home birth 4 weeks ago. We turned up the water heater before the birth and the water was still a little on the cold side. We put two (small) teakettle's full of water in and it was warm enough.

I have never heard of a BPIAB that came with a heater.

The only pool I know of that comes with a heater is an AquaDoula.

At any rate, a water heater in a birth pool is unnecessary. They stay very warm, especially if covered when not in use if you have a long labor.

Your water heater in your house will be sufficient to supply you with plenty of hot water. The temperature you are going for (99-100F) is not actually all that hot anyway.

A kettle of hot water wouldn't be needed either, because you just add more hot water to your pool from your tap through your hose.

Read the Birth Pool Resources thread for more info on all this stuff.

Don't forget to turn up your water heater in your house a couple weeks before you are due!

The pool doesn't come with a heater, I was going to order it seperate, sorry if I didn't word that very clear.

And thanks for the tip, I didn't even think to turn up the water heater, and right now it's slightly lowered so the kids don't burn themselves. Thanks!
