Help! Taking care of the boy bits questions

So, we have a boy. I was expecting one but I never really looked into taking care of boy bits. My MW is funny cause she has 4 girls so she didn't really have any concrete advice on boy bits.

Specifically I'm wondering about the rather uncomfy looking raw skin between his thighs & testes & also the fact that he seems to have tiny red pimples over much of the front of the diaper zone. And if there is anything else I should know about boys.

FWIW we CD & no circ & I clean him with a wet cloth & water & then dry him. I'm trying to give him some airing time each day but our house is cold & I'm usually following a toddler around.

Huh, sounds like he is a little rashy. Dylan never had a rash in the front, just on his bum in the back. My mom and I had sort of a product war over his butt. She would put bag balm on him and I preferred the Weleda Diaper Care cream (NOT the Weleda Baby Cream - also nice, but not as hardcare on rashes).

Not sure about the pimples... maybe just one of those newborn things?

The red pimply parts could be heat rash. We CD also and sometimes if I don't get to the diaper soon enough like over night, they get a bit of a rash. Some air time usually helps and keeping him in a dry diaper as much as possible. Using diaper rash cream on it doesn't help so don't bother.

Sounds like a plain 'ol diaper rash to me. I second the motion not to use diaper cream. It never works, it always seems to make it worse. My youngest son used to get a lot of diaper rashes and I did what my boys' first pediatrician told me...hang their little tushie over the sink and wash with plain old soap and water (especially after poopy diapers) and let him air dry. Works like a charm.

I only found a couple of things to put on the rash that actually always helped: Weleda Diaper cream because the calendula calms the skin and Lansinoh for nighttime. My little guy sleeps 4 hr stretches and I only change him once during the night, so I have to put something on him. He has tons of wet farts and if I don't put anything on him he wakes up w raw skin.
Other than that: airtime. Once a day I undress his bottom and just losely put a prefold around him and wrap him in a blanket. He takes a nap like this and his skin is much better after.
I hate newborn diaper rashes, they can get pretty painful and I hate it when my little guy is in pain.

I wonder if it's your brand of soap. Maybe when the diaper gets wet it's reacting with the soap???

straight up zinc oxide has always worked well for my kids bottoms , I tend to have rashy kids too... it has always worked along with the above advice...

lol Edwina, I was going to post asking about boy bits too. I don't know how guys walk around with those things ! I'm so afraid to hurt him.

My boy's scrotum is a bit swollen and red but the MW says it's just newborn hormones. We let him air out for a while last night and it looked a lot better after that.

I think the red pimples were heat rash. Once I switched to more breathable covers on his dipes and let him air out it went away. Now I just have to worry about the raw bits.

For what it's worth, my guy's scrotum looks a bit raw in places sometimes, but it doesn't seem to be bothering him. We try to change him often, and so far so good. But he hasn't been rashy yet, so I'm not sure.

I use the burts bees rash ointment when my little guy gets in the rashy way. Clears him right up, unless I've waited too long.

Hehehe, boy bits...
