Painting one wall?

I love my new house. I hate the paint. It's this cheap pale pale blue that comes off if you try to clean anything off the wall. There are darker blue spots were I guess paintings used to be... but only on one wall. I can't afford to paint the whole kitchen, and I wanted that wall to be an accent wall anyway...

How much would it cost just to paint one wall with pretty good paint?

Here a standard gallon of paint is anywhere from $22- $28. Really good paint can be even a few dollars more. If the house was just built you may also want to get a good primer as well because that will make a big difference.

I've had the best luck with Sherwin Williams paint...

You definately want a good primer! We painted 1 wall in our white bedroom red...after 8 coats just called it good enough :

Something to keep in mind if you're going drastically different colors.

I just painted the equivalent of one wall of DD's bedroom.

I bought Benjamin Moore paint. One quart, at $14-ish, was enough to do two coats. It looks good. I didn't need primer. I was covering white with a pale lavendar.

Really good paint will provide better coverage. I painted a 10 x 14 dining room in one coat (light green over very, very dark green). I did another coat just to be safe and I still have 1/3 gallon leftover.

Color choice will make a difference. As someone said, red can be a real challenge.

Measure the wall, and go into the paint store to explain your needs. I was surprised at how helpful they were. I ended up buying a gallon can and did two accent walls, and have plenty of paint left over. It cost me $20. Of course, the salesperson showed me the range of colors I could get without having to buy a primer or do like 10 coats (was trying to keep it a very cheap project). I originally wanted to do a deep chocolate brown, but he explained that would have doubled my costs. So I settled for a light mocha and only had to buy one can.

Accent walls are great. They can really open up and modernize a space.

We've had very good luck with Valspar (Lowe's) paint. We've done some pretty significant colors, and have only really needed one coat of paint on all of them.

Just wanted to add, alot of communities have recycling center's where you can just pick up a can of paint, so they don't have to pay to dispose of it. You can also get 'oops paint' from places like home depot, wm, and lowes. You can also try habitat for humanity or posting on Craigslist for 'Purple Paint". I've even seen paint and brushes at big lots.

So to answer your question.... It could be free!

Good luck!
