I thought Tylenol would be worse on my liver and baby's liver but I was just told to switch off IB to Tylenol for these 'roids. Does anyone know??

Hey - not in your DDC but I wanted to let you know that after I had my c/s 18 months ago I pretty much exclusively used ibuprofin for pain relief (like 600 mg every 4-5 hours). It was fine while breastfeeding, I was told. DS seems to have turned out ok, anyway Congrats on your new baby!!

In the hospital after DS they gave me ibuprofen because I was so sore down there... granted that was 6 years ago and sometimes "they" change their minds but personally I'd feel safe taking ibuprofen. Tylenol wouldn't do squat for me anyhow!

Yeah, "they" didn't bat an eye telling me *only a little* vicoden would get in breastmilk, so why don't i take it like all the other women on that floor? :

Boy do i have a bone to pick with that nurse!

I was taking tylenol, ibuprofen and oxycodone when I came home. I'm down to just tylenol. I would think that one would be as safe as the other, and as far as I know both are safe.

Oxycodone and vicodin and percoset do get into the milk in small amounts... so it's a personal judgment call as to how you feel about that. Maybe I'm a weenie, but given my pain level last week I decided that 2.5 mg of Oxy twice a day would be acceptable.

I'm sorry, I didn't mean for it to sound like no one should take anything stronger than ibuprofen. It definately has a place, but it was just one irritating nurse that was pushing every intervention possible on me really got under my skin. She worked the night shift so everything out of her mouth was extra annoying because I would have much rather been sleeping!

Gina, one is hard on you liver and the other your kidneys from what I remember but I do not know which one is which. Your midwives know your situation though so on this I would trust them!

My doctor gave me motrin (800 mg but that is more than I need so I got regular over-the-counter motrin, 200 mg and I just take one or two). They said that was fine... they also gave me a prescription for vicodin because my tear was bad. DH keeps asking me to get it filled for some reason....

one thing to keep in m ind is that PAIN -- the stress hormone released due to it -- effectes milk too ..... it gets in the milk and it can decresse production .... so while it is a judgement call .. to risk a minor exposure for a few days, or in MY case be a bad momma due to pain .... I choose the medication this time and more so last time (4th degree tear last time) .... evertyhing is a balanceing act -- i chose not to risk a reduction in milk level and to not be in a costant bad mood ........

everyone must make this own choice , but remember the reduction in milk prodution is a risk too

I took Motorn at the hsoptial in 2005 and again now and it is what i came home on.
