breastfeeding multivitamins?

i ran out of prenatals a few days ago so i went to wild oats with the intent of buying a multivitamin that was geared towards breastfeeding mamas instead... but i didn't find any. i found many that were geared towards women in general, but they were lacking in a lot of the vitamins/supplements that are considered to be pretty essential for breastfeeding, like iodine.

so i just bought more of my prenatals, because i really love them, but i was wondering if anyone had found, in a store or online, multivitamins designed for breastfeeding women.

I've only seen one and sadly I cannot remember the name! The company it was by had both a pre-natal and a breastfeeding one. I didn't even really give it a good look because I had just bought a huge bottle of pre-natals (since I also couldn't find any geared towards breastfeeding).

It's good you bought more pre-natals rather than just a women's vitamin. At least pre-natals are safe for your breastfeeding little one. Many of the women's vitamins have herbs in them that are not for breastfeeding moms (like ginseng for example and sometimes it's called by a different name so you don't realize it's ginseng!).

I'll call the store I saw them at later today and let you know what brand they were.

thank you! i thought for sure there would be multiple brands offering something like this, since it's actually MORE important that a breastfeeding woman is getting all her nutrients than a pregnant woman (because there's no placenta sharing the work after the baby is out), but apparently i was wrong!

Okay, I called them. The brand is "Sweet Momma". Here is their web site http://www.sweetmomma.com/supplements/ and the breastfeeding one under the "Nourish" tab. They call it "Nourish Lactation".

I am not sure where you are located, but it's made in Canada so you might not be able to get it if you're in the U.S. I do like that the DHA they are using is from algae and not from fish! They also make "his" and "hers" vitamins for couples conceiving....cool!

ETA: I found a copy of the label so you can see the ingredients http://www.hedleys.ca/PDF/momma/SM_LABEL-N.pdf It seems that this part of the label just lists the vitamins/minerals, but the product does also contain the DHA supplement from algae.
