My update: he's here!

Background info: My household has been sick for two weeks with a respiratory/sore throat thing. I've been feeling horrible for a week. I've been planning on delivering at home UC but seeing the midwives up until that point, and then receive my postpartum care visits.

I went to the midwife this morning for my 42 wk appt, on the way there I erupted into a horrible coughing fit - could not breathe - and I freaking peed my pants. Wet. Sopping wet. With nothing to change into. And I smelled like urine. How humiliating!!!!!

So when we got there, the midwife realized I was sicker than she thought. I had to do the NST first, so she had to lay out some sheets on the sofa so I wouldn't seep into the upholstery. LOL. NST fine, of course, then she examined me and stripped my membranes (OUCH!). She wrote me a prescription for an inhaler to settle down my lungs. I need to finish my antibiotics and stay on Mucinex. She said to come back in the morning to book in, go for another strip, and then we'll do stimulation with a breastpump until things get going. I'm hoping that these membrane strip contractions keep going and I can just deliver at home alone tonight. But if not, I'm going through with the birth center tomorrow.

***** The first strip worked and he arrived at the birth center at 1:30 am last night! I decided not to UC after looking around at the messy house, realizing there were no clean towels since my mom's washer broke, and needing a break from the kids. It was a super quick easy birth and I'm feeling really good except for the afterpains. No tears or any soreness but my SPD is adjusting. I'm REALLY happy with the way it turned out, and glad I didn't stay home alone, as my postpartum bleeding was excessive. More details to come, his siblings LOVE him dearly and I think he's absolutely beautiful!

Good luck - it sounds like you are prepared either way!

getting baby out of there will definitely open up your lungs a bit and make breathing easier!

Be sure to get plenty of rest, and YES YES YES to the extra vitamin C, recovering from birth is hard enough, without adding a physical illness recovery as well.

I am sure you will all be OK, but please take care of yourself, and allow yourself the time to recover, weeks if necessary, just TAKE IT EASY and drink plenty of fluids.
