Birth as We Know It, Educational Edition or Special Edition?

Since everyone loves Birth as We Know It so much, I want to order it for our Homebirth Support Group to watch as a group.

There are two versions of it, an Educational Edition and a Special Edition, and I don't know which one to get. On the one hand, it seems like there's a lot more footage in the Special Edition, so I'd rather get that. But on the other hand, the Educational Edition has an abridged video (25 or 40 minutes long) which is a good length for a group setting.

I'm considering either getting the Special Edition for the extras, and just cutting off the end when we show it to the group, or getting the Educational Edition and just not worrying about the stuff we are missing.

Also, someone was speculating on an earlier thread that the Special Edition is might be more hippy-ish than the Educational one. Does one have a different tone from the other?

I actually didn't love it. I don't know the differences between the editions, but I was somewhat disappointed with the video, which I think would only be really enjoyed by a kind of small group of people. It was too...something...for me. I'm a UCer and everything but just something about it.

I haven't seen it yet, so maybe I'll make it back up to Indy when you have a showing. :

It was too ... what?

What kind of effect do you think it would have on an unconvinced "I'm here because she's wants me to be here" kind of dad? We have more than one of those skeptical arms-crossed types. I really want to hook them.

How great that it's at Birth Ecology so I can figure these things out for myself. Childbirth videos are so expensive it's scary to buy them.

It would be cool if you could come. If everything falls into place, we'll show it at our Dec. 10 meeting.

Unfortunately, the library won't let us use their projector, so we'll be huddled around a laptop.

I guess if you think about the stereotypical "new agey" thing, something like that though that's not exactly right. It is definitely not my choice for convincing mainstream types. I think most mainstream types would be very turned off by it. I have Homebirth: the Spirit, the Science, & the Mother and it is far more likely to have an impact on someone who's unconvinced, IMO. And of course, The Business of Being Born whenever it's available for purchase. Birth as We Know It has a lot of floaty, ethereal music and stuff, and a lot of the birth footage is old which doesn't bother me but some people think of it as "outdated" (as if birth changes, in a physiological sense, right?). There's one woman who had multiple orgasms during her birth, which I think is the coolest part of the whole video, but it freaks a lot of people out.

Cool... I'm on the yahoogroup so I'll watch for any announcements. Not sure if I could come or not in December though.

And cool, I'll have to check out the website with the videos!
