.. because my midwife won't be here on wed. and thurs. morning (she'll be out of town for thanksgiving) so one of the backup midwives.. who I have never met.. would be the one coming. Obviously baby is waiting until the worst time to arrive

OR, they are waiting until I have to have an u/s next week (at 42 wks).. I'm terrified that I will accidently either see the gender or be told the gender after a really late u/s.. so mabye they are waiting on that to happen Has that happened to anyone?

I remember reading The Big Rumpus by Ayun Halliday (which I HIGHLY recommend because it's hilarious) and she described her labor with both children. She said that every midwifery practice has a specific set of MWs - the nice one, the hippy-dippy one, a few others, and the one you have never met before. The one you have never met is the one who will be on call when you go into labor.

That was true the first time around. The second time around I had met all of midwives, so the one on duty was my least favorite.

So... I think your theory is sound. Sort of the Murphy's law effect.

W/my 1st they had us do 2 later term U/S & I was afraid they would accidentally let "it" slip, but I reminded them & they never did. Just let them know before hand. I've never had a tech not be really nice about keeping the secret throughout all 3 pregnancies (although I was nervous each U/S).
