OMG so itchy!!!

I had posted about having a burning feeling down there. I went to the OB yesterday thinking that he would test me for a yeast infection since I asked him to and he said to get monistat. I thought there would be a swab test or something but he didn't do one.

Oh by the way, I was feeling much better but since it seems that I gave it to dh I figured I needed to bring it up at the dr's office. Anyway, I got a script called in but it is a 7 day cream and since I am already past due I bought a 1 day monistat for me and saved the 7 day for dh. So I used the monistat and I have never been so itchy in my entire life. It is 100% worse then it was before I used it. It took me forever to fall asleep last night because of the itch. Now I am still so itchy inside. I don't know what to do to stop the itch!!

I should add that I have not had a yeast infection in over 10 years. Why now?

Thanks for letting me complain.

I'm a little surprised that your ob didn't take a look and possibly swab. It could easily be a bacterial infection which has to be treated differently. Especially since it's been so long since you've had a yeast infection. If you don't start feeling some relief within the next 24 hours, I'd go back in to see your OB asap (just because you're overdue, and how awful would that be to deal with postpartum with all the other ouchy stuff you'll be dealing with.)

i agree with pp...if it is bacterial the monistat will only make it worse! i can't believe he didn't do a swab!!!! i would call the dr office immediatley. JMHO

In the mean time, you may want to do a vinegar rinse, that might make you feel better. I use a peri bottle, not sure what you could use if you don't have one, but I mix about 2 tbsp of vinegar in with 1qt of warm water, and rinse with that.

Also, up your probiotics and water. Eat lots of yogurt, avoid processed sugars, drink water water water.

Good luck!

Thanks for the vinager idea. I don't have a peri bottle but I will fill up the tub a little bit and add some vinager to it and try and soak for a little bit.

Do you think fruit is ok to eat?

I always use the 3 day stuff and lemme tell you that the first day after treatment is the PITS. Imagine a warzone going on down there. You've got the yeastyboys trying to fight against the monostatarmy. Not fun. If it is a yeast infection (which it very well may be) you will probably start feeling better tomorrow.

I hope you do feel better soon!!!

I can't believe he didn't swab either! Monistat can be irritating in and of itself -- I can't use it at all because it causes even more burning and itching. There are dry capsules (gynelotrimin, I think) that are not as harsh, but you should always make sure you actually have a yeast infection before treating a yeast infection.

I wouldn't use anymore Monistat without a culture telling you definitely that is what you have.

No worse hell than a yeast infection... and having one at the end of a pregnancy is just adding insult to injury!

i saw a home kit at the grocery store that tests you for vaginal infection. i think it's a good idea in case you're treating yeast that isn't there.

yes, those vagisil home vaginal infection test kits. although i think i'd demand to see my OB's office again TODAY to see what is going on. he should not have just had you go use monistat w/out checking you out more. sorry you are going thru this!!!
