baby grabbing

Ok, so DD2 is 10 days old. Last night was DD1's big music program at school. DH and myself go, and DH has DD all snuggled in his arms. Our neighbor was there. This woman we do not know well, but she thinks she is everyone's best friend. She brought over a gift a few days ago and snatched the baby, laid her on her chest while wearing this huge metal necklace that left an indention on babies face. Then we had to hose her down well before we planned as she reeked of this ladies perfume.

So music program...she walks up and literally, I kid you not, grabs the baby out of DH's arms. We are dumbfounded, baby is sound asleep. DH was just about to say something and I nudge him to hush, mostly curious how long this woman would hold DD. DD was out cold, neighbor lady is very gentle and nice in general, just NO social skills...thinks she is baby expert as she is an RN and that somehow makes her a specialist on babies. So we wait, as baby happily snoozes. About 30 minutes into to program, DH is pissed. The DD starts squirming and lady turns around and says....do you have a pacifier? : DD settles right back down, no paci, and the lady holds her the entire hour until DH snatches her back.

Now instinctive Joanna would have grabbed the baby back from the get go. Knowing baby would be fine (the lady is honestly really well-meaning, DD was happy as a lark getting her butt patted and snoozing) I was just curious how much of a social nut job this lady was.

Turns out, she is a total nut, and will not be allowed to hold my DD again. She filled her quota. And now baby smells like her.

People are crazy.

OMG now way... I would have been livid. So far only family and 2 friends have held Ava. And that was at the hospital. DH had a football party on Sunday and we had a "viewing" only session where people could come inside and see us (they watched the game in the garage like "real men do" (according to DH) but no one touched her let alone held her. Nope, no freaking way and this is my 3rd, so you'd think that I'd be relaxed about this type of thing...

Kudos to you for handling it so well. I on the other hand would have flipped. You know, I didn't mind friends holding baby, but at LEAST ask first and respect the decision of the parent. Grrrrrr.

I am pretty sure that I would have scratched her eyes out!

People.....some of them really suck!

Wow, you're a lot more patient than I would have been. I would have gently taken my daughter back out of that woman's arms and given her the cut direct. Yeesh.

You're a saint, in my book. I would have not only told her a resounding NO and snatched my child back, but would have had to be restrained from beating her about the head and swearing at her in some primal language
