I've always had a real tree growing up, but dh is all freaked out about Christmas tree fires and our house going up in flames. He wants a flame retardant fake tree, but it seems to me that those would be laden with chemicals that I don't want in my home, but I don't really know anything about it. I figure we have a newer home that doesn't have electrical problems, we won't be leaving the lights on all day, and we can unplug them at night, so it's not that big of a risk. Plus, it will only be up for about 3 weeks, so it won't get all dry. So what kind do you usually get or plan on getting this year?

We've always had a fake tree, non-flame retardant (because of the chemicals involved). I love the smell of real pine, but my dh is allergic to it, plus the risk of fire is greater.

Putting up and decorating the tree is my most favorite winter activity. We've always had real trees.. I don't think we'd ever use a fake one.

We all have horrible allergies, and our oldest has asthma, so we've been afraid to get a real tree. We've had a fake white one for two years now, but we're getting a fake green one this year.

We've always used an artificial tree. We've had our tree a couple of years and before that it belonged to a family member.
I don't know if the tree is flame retardant or not. I've never really worried about it with an artificial tree.

I voted a real tree. This year it will be a potted tree so it can find its new home in our backyard.

Our fav tradtiion is to go out and cut a fresh tree.

Live trees are fine as long as you water, water, water - never let the holder go dry. When you bring it in, recut the stump to open up the cells....

We've always had a real tree since we've been married. I had a mix of real and artificial growing up.

I'm considering one of the potted trees as well this year. We own our house now so we actually have a place to plant one, and it does seem strange to kill a tree to use as a decoration.

I've always had and will have a fake tree!

Someone gave us a beautiful fake tree a few years ago before that we always did live. I have no idea what kind it is.

We always have to have a real tree. I'd rather have no tree at all than to get a fake one: I just love that freshly cut christmas tree smell! Not to mention that our local christmas tree farms are keeping those icky clear-cutting subdivision developers at bay. I've gotta support that!

My DH is a fire fighter and he's seen 1 too many house fires caused by poorly maintained real Christmas trees (if you keep it watered the risk of fire is fairly low) so he refuses to get a real tree.

We have a pre-lit artifical tree...not sure about the flame retardent. Probaby not, I don't think I'd want those kinds of chemicals anyway.

We used to do live, but I have horrible allergies to pine so it's fake now. I have no idea if it's flame retardent we bought it about 6 years ago.

Pre-lit artificial tree. Our house is small, so we have a 'slim' tree, I'd probably have a hard time finding a real tree that would fit right without being way too short, and this is more cost effective. I just don't have the time to deal with a real tree and all the pine needles dropping everywhere, etc either.

I voted 'other' because we have one of each. We used to have two live trees - which I prefer. But my husband hates dragging a live tree into the basement, leaving a trail of needles that seem to re-appear as late as July. Growing up my family always had one live and one fake tree.

I had a nice artificial tree but got rid of it for 2 reasons:

1. Allergist strongly suggested getting rid of it due to my severe allergies to dust.

2. They contain lead.

wE'VE always gotten a tiny live one that we plant afterwards. But this year we are in a house, not a crowded mobile home and I would love to have a big tree in the front window.

6 1/2 foot fake tree that is pre-lit. It was on sale for an insane price and I couldn't pass it up considering we'd be paying almost as much for a real one that we won't be ablet o use again next year. I like it, it's really nice and the kids seem to love it too.
I don't know if it's flame-retardant or not

We have an artificial, non-flame-retardant tree. Growing up, I only remember one year having a "live" tree, but I remember sneezing all the time around it and we found little pine needles for months after Christmas.

We always had a freshly cut tree untl two years ago. We bought a fake one with lights already attached. I love it and don't plan on going back to a real one anytime soon.
