Fake tree all the way. I grew up in family where cutting down the tree was tradition and I very much looked forward to it. But, maybe when DS is older we'll do that. For right now, I'm more comfy with the idea of a fake tree falling over on him than a real one.
we've been getting a live tree for the past 3 yrs. My Dh also worries about fires, but we don't leave the lights on during the night or while out. I even unplug it when we are gone for an extended time, and Dh still worries. He still doesn't believe me that dead plants don't spontaneously combusted. If they did, our home would have burnt down long ago.
I have had a mix growing up with more real trees than fake.
Last year was our first Christmas and we bought a live tree as in living before and after we used it. We planted it in his mom's yard b/c we do not have a yard. Transporting was a bit of a PITA since my MIL lives 20 min away and we don't have a truck or van. This time we are more knowledgeable and looking forward to it. The tree is only in the house for like 5 days max and we shut it off b4 bed.
It's nice to see our "1st" Christmas tree going strong in the yard.
I have to say I think I might prefer to see tree farms than empty "business" buildings like the ones taking over our county. **sigh**
Real, always have been. Mostly cut, but one year we bought a potted tree. I'm not sure what the plan is this year. We live near several tree farms, or we could get a $5 pass to cut a tree down from a national forest. Or maybe go the potted route again, who knows, but if we do have one it will be real.
