Fuzzi Buns talk...

I have this ONE dipe - a FB size XS - that I thought I would hate. I have only used it twice now and the pocket thing didn't bother me at all and I liked the ease of not using a cover.

The pocket liner thingy bajingy seemed super absorbant the one time he peed in it (the second time he only pooped before I changed him).

Are these recommended for night time? Probably not...?

Do you have any negatives about them?

Is there another brand of pocket dipe with snaps that's better? I think I prefer snaps over velcro, but am willing to try anything.

Also, Lachlan was nearly 9 pounds. When do you think he will grow out of the XS size?

I think I am going to purchase a few more of things so I can bypass the cover and so they dry more quickly.

Yep, pockets are awesome cause they dry so fast! I've known pp who use FB at night and have been really happy, mostly because you can customize absorbency for how much and where your kid wets and kids feel drier in them b/c the liner wicks the moisture away from their skin. I have no idea about FB sizing except that I believe they make a petite scale diaper too. (??)

I've never used FB but have used Swaddlebees Side Snapping Pockets. I LOVE Swaddlebees (and love snaps!) but they did not work for us until ds was eating solids. The trim fit is great, but the BM poop just blows out the sides! If you like the FBs then I'd stick with those since they seem to have good coverage and good "sidewalls" to contain the BM poo.

Negatives about pocket dipes in general are that they can get stinky. You've got to strip them a bit more frequently IME...Also, sometimes PUL can cause a kid to get rashy, esp. when the weather gets warmer b/c it keeps in more moisture than nylon for example. But that totally depends on the kids and (duh) how often you change the dipe.

We use them all the time with Hemparoo babykicks for liners usually-but we do have a few random microfiber liners. DS never had XS but he outgrew S at about 6 months. He's 2.5yo now and is still in M. I have a couple that are showing a little wear-a missing snap, etc. I can't remember when but we did have to start using 2 hemparoos at night to prevent leaking. Now my hemparoos are really starting to show wear and we are triple and quadruple stuffing because I'm too cheap to buy new ones-I keep hoping he'll show interest in potty training!

The only time I was really frustrated with FB was early on. I had been washing them in All Free and Clear and they got awful build up so I had spend some time stripping them. Later I found a post on the Fuzzi Bunz boards where they said any free and clear detergent works well but except All-wish I had found that before I bought the Costco size container

I have a friend who loves Swaddlebees-they are really trim. I didn't try them until recently but my ds soaks through them really fast (during the day with their hemp liner) and I can't seem to get used to the way they snap-opposite of FB. If I didn't have a full set of size S FB, I'd probably be inclined to try a few of them with the new babe.

We love fuzzi bunz!! We use them on William, our 21-month old, and have since he was about 12 months. He is in a medium and we use two liners all the time (including nighttime). We used to use just one liner during the day and two at night, but he kept leaking during the day... so we started using an extra liner and it fixed the problem. We'll start using FB on our newborn as soon as he is big enough to fit into size small (8 pounds, I think?). For now we're using a diaper service. I can't remember the weight range for FB for their size XS, but I know it is posted on www.jilliansdrawers.com somewhere... that is a great site!

My DD (2 yo) is exclusively in FBs and we love them. We had a little trouble with stink until I talked to the Charlie's Soap rep- apparently the soap I was using on other laundry was causing buildup in our diapers. Hmmm...but no problems now and I haven't had to strip them since!

We have KL0's for the newborn because I tend to have small babies. But we have small FBs for once the babe can fit into them. We just like the ease of using pockets!

How do you strip them and what's the best detergent?
I use charlie's soap for each wash (I do a cold rinse and then a hot wash) and once a week I use two scoops of oxiclean to strip them. It makes an amazing difference (they do tend to get a bit stinky before too long).

FB -- The good, the bad, the Ugly.

Good -- They are on sale most places now for $13 as a new style is coming out! I know lots of people that love them and they work great at night.

Bad -- Elastic often wears out fast, not quality since the last update on them. You see the lady who started them, pockets, sold out in some peoples opinions.

Ugly -- They are no longer mama made but rather third world country made and there was a down grade in quality, mostly the elastic. You will find mamas on diaper boards that actually advertize they FIX elastic problems as they happen so often with these. You might want to look up the business side of them.

If you need help finding some place that has them for $13, let me know and I will be happy to hunt for you. I have two smalls in boy yellow and lime green that I have only washed if you want to buy them off me. I have a girl, not the boy I expected! LOL

we use 98% fbs here, and 100% of our diaper stash is pockets! Day, night, they're wonderful. XS is VERY small and only fit our preemie son for about a month, then we switched to smalls. For the first few months one microfiber insert was enough for night, and one joeybunz hemparoo for day. DS was in smalls for about 6 months, but he's been in the mediums now for a year! Now we use a combo of microfiber and hemparoo for the night time dipe and 2 hemparoos for daytime and this works PERFECT for our DS. He RARELY leaks out of his diaper.

As for washing, we use Allens Naturally, which is what fb recommends and we've NEVER had to strip the diapers. Except for the one time my father put fabric softner in, but that was his error, not the fb or the soap.

If you choose to use a non-recommended soap then you may have to strip them. If you accidentally use fabric softner you definitely have to strip them.

Some kiddos do have a reaction to PUL, but if your son doesn't (mine obviously does not) I can't recommend a dipe more highly than fbs. Others we do like are jango, preston pockets, and sumbuns. I've heard haute pockets are good, but have not tried one yet. I hated wonderoos.

Hmm, if you do like pockets but the pul gives him a rash you can try fleece only dipes, like jango, and preston pockets has some as well.

Woah, Bridgette must be extra chunky, she's wearing a small FB halfway into the second snap setting already!

I didn't think I'd like pockets, but I'm really digging not fumbling with a cover in the half dark.

I have yet to wash though, so can't speak to any more than that

I love pockets, but don't have many because they are so much more expensive than the prefolds I use. My favorites are Happy Heiny's though. Fuzzi Bunz are nice, but they seem to dig into my DD's legs and she has really skinny legs, so I think they might dig in even more with a bigger baby. But I guess it depends on your individual babe.

When I stripped mine I just washed them with no detergent until the water ran clear in the rinse. You could see the suds in the machine that was built up in the diaper. I have only had to do this once thankfully!

As for detergent, I've used the Whole Foods brand detergent and the Seventh Generation Free and Clear. With the soap you just have to remember to use such a small amount it feels like they won't get clean but they do!

One drawback to them that I forgot about is that on their site it says you can't use diaper creams with them-it can cause build-up I guess. We don't really use diaper cream so I don't have experience with it, but it might be something to keep in mind!
