3rd Tri Swap UPDATE - Page 5

If you were my swap partner, would you rather I send my hand-made items on time, sending whatever I have made so far, or would you rather me send the items late, picking out the best of what I've made for you? My original plan was to make several items, some for me and some for my swap partner, then pick the best of them for the swap. I've only had time to do enough for the swap so far. I could send them on time, and the things look nice, but maybe not perfect. I don't even know if I make more if they will look better than these (they are pretty good and cute already, if you ask me), but I am a perfectionist and feel that if I'd make more they might come out even better. I also might have time to make some other stuff to add to the package with an extra weekend to work. What do you think? On time or the potential for slightly better stuff a couple days late?

BinahYeteirah, can you check and see when your swap partner is due? I would think that the only reason to "hurry up" would be if the baby was coming at the very beginning of February. If it were me, I a) wouldn't mind waiting, but b) would think that whatever you sent was brilliant, not knowing about the "better" potential items!

Also-- to me partner, I *am* sending it out tomorrow... I was holding on to the items I had, hoping I would somehow come across something else perfect and virtually free, but I haven't, so...

My car is in the shop, but as soon as it's out I'm off to the post office - hopefully tomorrow!

B - I think the charm of the handmade stuff is in the imperfections. If it's too perfect then it looks like a machine made it. We shouldn't be putting pressure on ourselves when the act of creation is the thing that gives these gifts their value.

: Ok, she said what I actually meant! I'm very tired....

If I were your swap partner, I'd want you not to stress out and mail it whenever you had time and felt satisfied with your gift.

knitting knitting knitting... and moving. Of course we'd have to move apartments during the holidays...

Thank you so much StrawberryFields.

She sent me a beautiful dress with matching diaper cover and onesie, a playsilk, and a book. DS has us read the book to him and the baby last night before bed. I love it all. Thank so much.
I am glad that you like everything!! It was fun picking it out for you. Enjoy!

I'm picking up the last item today (not a skill I had, so I traded for my mamas package) and getting it all in the postbox at the end of the day. OH, and desperately trying to find an alternative to knitted i-cord.
Binah, if it's just a case of "this doesn't look how I wanted it to" then I'd post it. If there's something in particular that doesn't please you (kwim? That you're just REALLY not happy with), I'd stick a note in saying parcel 1 of 2, and redo that item. I'm acutely aware that I have two weeks from New Year for my mama to get her parcel, though, so I just don't have time to mess around.
Can someone fill me in: is DHL fairly user-friendly over there? Because I've had a few lost parcels in this last year, I don't want a repeat, and time is an issue so I was considering couriering it. What do you think?

Here in the US? I've never used DHL to ship something to someone but I have had things shipped to me using it and the only thing I can say is that they have never once delivered my package on time. I think the last time I remarked to my dh that I don't know how this company stays in business because it can't possibly be a coincidence that every singe one of our packages are late. Nothing has ever been lost though, and nothing has ever been SUPER SUPER late--just "what the heck, I paid for next day shipping and it's been 3 business days already and still no package" late.

I don't know about it coming from the UK, but when I was shopping for shipping to AU going with Fed Ex or UPS was pohibitively expensive - like $100 compared to the $20+ for regular post. I've no direct experience with DHL other than seeing the trucks all over the place since I live in a decent-sized city so I can't help you out much there.

NOS---got my package yesterday, saw it when I came home from a late night at work and it made things so much better mood-wise for me! Thank you! I will post more about it tomorrow when I can think more coherently but wanted to make sure you knew I received it...

I'm do envious of everyone getting thier packages. I can hardly wait to get mine to see what neat things are in it. I finnally got DH to help me find room in the midst of our construction site of a home to set up my sewing machine so I can start sewing things for my baby. I've been working on a home business for about 6-12 months so I have lots of things blankets, burp cloths and decorated onsies, but now I can make diapers and a crib blanket and things just for my little one...YAY!!!!

Hope you are all doing well.

I had a very different experience the one time I used DHL for some very...ahem...time-sensitive material. I live in an area with notoriously poor postal and UPS service, so I was quite worried, but the package arrived right when it was supposed to. It wasn't cheap, though.

Maybe they just hate me!

UPS delivered my package today. Can't wait to hear if you like it.

We are supposed to be updating the database with info like when the package shipped, and when it was received, correct?

Yes.

Uh-huh. That way, if someone flakes then Dea doesn't have to email all 24 participants to see where the loose ends are. Oh, and my mystery item is beeyoooootiful. I took photos before I posted, so there should be teaser pics on my blog this weekend when I do the huge update...

I loved all of it!!!! Steady 101 picked out a long sleeve, cream colored shirt with hedgehogs on it (hedgies are one of my favorites) along with pants and a hat to go with. The pants and hat have little squirrels and trees on them. Way cute!!! She also picked out/made (?) an all in one diaper with different balls on the outside. Perfect for my sportsminded husband!!

THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU!!!!

Mine is finally ready to go. Nothing like sneaking in at the last minute. I'll get it posted tomorrow, but I hope that my partner doesn't mind waiting a bit for it. It's got a bit of a distance to travel! I can't wait to get it sent!!

Mine is going out tomorrow. FINALLY.

If you are the person sending TO me, I just wanted to leave a note here to mention that I'm not at the address that you have to send to me...yet. The person who IS there has promised to let me know when the package arrives and take pictures so that I can gush over it all from afar. If you HAVEN'T sent it yet, you are more than welcome to wait a week or two to send it, because that's how long it's going to take me to get there (and that's if things go WELL!)
