Patrick O'Hearn was fabulous during the birth of DD, and I plan to use it again. He's got lots of choices, and the particular one I had was So Flows The Current. O'Hearn is a bass player. The songs are very long, flowy, and relaxing with a hypnotic bass undertone. no lyrics, which I like. I found it easy to breath with the music and go way deep.

I was just working through this myself the other day. I've decided on an eclectic mix of Engima, some Enya stuff, Loreena McKennitt..

and, if she comes before Christmas...

I had a cd case full of different stuff, and my labor went so fast and intence that I just said "put anything in!" and whoever it was chose that. It REALLY helped me focus and work with the contractions. During one very intence moment (did I mention it was intense! ) The music stopped and I was like, woken out of a trance, my midwife asked what was wrong and I said I NEED that back on!! Everyone got a kick out of it and laughed...sorry didn't mean to ramble!
I don't think it is corny at all!!! I planned to listend to Pink Floyd during DD's water birth. Listened to 'The Wall' and 'Dark Side of the Moon'. It was very relaxing, and put me in a place where I could tune everything, and everyone out except for me and my baby and my contractions. I also listened to some good old yoga tunes, put me in the 'mode'.

I think this all depends on personal tastes-- I have had clients listen to Pearl Jam and , Metallica, self recorded protest songs- that she sang along with, Heart, bagpipes-- to name a few
personally I like Santana because they have long sets that move along the lower body-- I saw Carlos talking about their music one time and he said they watch the women they are looking for ( indicated by gesture) a sensual response from women-
belly dancing music, it is a good idea to have soothing and stimulating music because often women need some pepping up or activity while laboring and too soothing can be counter productive.
singing can help some women and things that were sung to you as a baby or child are well memorized and easy to do without thinking much... rock-a-bye-baby, baby beluga, itsy bitsy spider...

We played a Subliminal CD contain soothing ocean sounds with embedded inaudible subliminal programming that was professionally scripted for HYPNO-BIRTHING.

I thought it was fantastic. I feel as though I went into a trancelike state and as soon as my DS was born I felt awake, alert and fantastic. I couldn't recall the pain associated with labour minutes later. I highly recommend it.

I listened to Queen. I probably will again.

I find music designed to be relaxing is the farthest thing from relaxing for me so I just stick with my favourite songs from my favourite band!

While I had various music chosen for my HB, the only thing I ended up listening to were my Hypnobirthing CDs. Helped me incredibly. 3.5 hour birth. Listening to that "sober" and listening to that in laborland are two comlpetely different relaxing things!
