More money to be made mutilating babies

This new alternative to stem cell research:

STORY

Quote:
For the new work, the two men chose different cell types from a tissue supplier. Yamanaka reprogrammed skin cells from the face of an unidentified 36-year-old woman, and Thomson's team worked with foreskin cells from a newborn. Thomson, who was working his way from embryonic to fetal to adult cells, said he's still analyzing his results with adult cells.
and so it will continue...think of the money they will make on this and the money they will lose if they loose the ability to harvest cells from unsuspecting babies and their parents.

I don't think they will be harvesting baby foreskins for this technique. The point is that they will be able to make stemcells out of the patients own skin cells

The new work shows that the direct reprogramming technique can also produce versatile cells that are genetically matched to a person.
The idea is if patient X needs a new heart the Dr takes skin cells from X and sends them to a lab. At the lab they turn the cells into stemcells and grow a new heart. The lab sends it back to patient X for implantation.

If they made the stemcells from a harvested foreskin then those stemcells only match that baby and possibly a handful of others, not everyone. They will have just used one for reseach b/c it was available.

They are at very early stages of research so it will be years before this happens anyway.

Thanks...I tend to get a bit reactive when I see a new reason for docs to make $$$ off of babies and give them another reason to keep cutting
